I had a lot of complexes about my appearance itself, so I figured that once I became an adult, I would probably get cosmetic surgery somewhere. Among them, I decided I would get double eyelid surgery because it had the least risk and the cost wasn’t too high. While searching online, I thought about going by myself and made a consultation appointment somewhere nearby.
At a glance, there were signs and promotional posters inside and outside the hospital that made it look almost like a dermatology clinic mainly focused on skin care. The coordinator/consultant, to put it bluntly, had the stereotypical Gangnam beauty look, so I wondered if I should leave immediately, but the doctor gave a very serious consultation and firmly said I didn’t need ptosis correction or front/back canthoplasty, so I suddenly liked the place. On the day of surgery, we checked one last time during the preoperative consultation, and during the follow-up process and even when I woke up in the middle of anesthesia while the surgery was being done, I could feel that the surgery was being performed very carefully, so personally I think I was really lucky. The line was set well, just as I wanted. As wrinkles formed around my eyes, the shape changed and I felt very slightly like the double eyelid strength had weakened, but I was lazy and managed it terribly, and after surgery I came home and even if there was bleeding, I just left it thinking it would dry on its own... For a year, there wasn’t really anything like my eyes became prettier? or my face changed dramatically. For real, it felt like a line had just been drawn on my eyes? But they do say eye swelling really depends on the person, and only after almost 3 years did all the swelling go down and the double eyelids become more defined. The line is thick, but maybe the opening strength is weak, because one side is a bit faint... But as it changed, it became an outline, and that ended up changing so freaking prettily...
With double eyelids too, if you have an incision or if there isn’t enough fat or subcutaneous tissue, revision surgery is difficult. Especially with epicanthoplasty and ptosis correction, even setting side effects aside, if the result is different from the shape discussed during consultation, it can’t be reversed... I think with double eyelid surgery, you absolutely have to decide clearly on the shape you want and, taking the doctor’s usual style into account, state it strongly or express it clearly.
So in my case, I had zero side effects or inflammation, and until the swelling went down, there could be a mild pulling or itchy feeling.
I think the real deal is a hospital that does it properly, doesn’t charge a consultation fee, listens well to the patient’s requests, doesn’t insist on the doctor’s own style, only performs necessary surgeries, doesn’t ask for things like a deposit, where the director alone handles consultation, treatment, and surgery, and that is neither too expensive nor too cheap.
You absolutely have to check whether the hospital has CCTV.
Even if it’s eye surgery, I hope you do it with the mindset that you’ll only have surgery once in your life. Don’t gamble like I did. Because with any revision surgery, money gets burned, and there’s a high chance you won’t get the ideal shape...
