I had double-jaw surgery and facial-contouring surgery together with Dr. Shin Hee-jin at [Clinic A] Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It has been eight months since the surgery^^ I initially looked into surgery because my jaw kept dislocating, but now my jaw feels comfortable and my facial shape has changed naturally, so I’m extremely satisfied haha.
I originally had Class II malocclusion and a short, recessed lower jaw. I had developed a habit of intentionally pushing my lower jaw forward whenever I ate or spoke, and after living that way for so long, my jaw gradually became strained. At first it only made clicking sounds, but the dislocations gradually repeated until eventually my jaw would dislocate even while I was speaking After examination, I was told that the disc in my left temporomandibular joint had displaced considerably and degeneration had progressed, making me a case requiring double-jaw surgery. Since I had decided to undergo surgery anyway, I also decided to reduce my prominent cheekbones, which had been a lifelong complex, and have genioplasty at the same time.
Because double-jaw and facial-contouring surgery is such a major operation, I researched clinics very carefully. I had known about [Clinic A] Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from seeing it several times on YouTube and online communities, and I also watched many surgical videos and read reviews from other clinics before going for consultations myself. What stood out most about [Clinic A] was the examination process before consultation. I felt they examined things much more thoroughly and meticulously than other places, and Dr. Shin explained my jaw condition and the surgical plan in detail, step by step. It felt clearly different from the clinics I had consulted before, so after much deliberation I decided to have surgery here~
In my case, perhaps I was the type who responds well to surgery lol,, because from the second week after surgery, I could clearly see my facial shape changing. I was especially amazed and happy, even while swollen, because the position of my previously short lower jaw had visibly changed haha. By the third week, much of the swelling had gone down, and apart from slightly uncomfortable pronunciation because of the wafer, I got through it without much difficulty. The ear fullness I had at first also disappeared, and I had recovered enough to go out without a mask. Once I removed the wafer and rubber bands and could eat soft foods, life became much easier lol. My husband and children were amazed, saying my facial shape had changed a lot. Putting in the small rubber bands hurt quite a bit, of course, but I got through it well while watching my face gradually settle into place!
Now it has been eight months since my double-jaw surgery, and recently I met friends I’ve known for 10 years for the first time since surgery. Everyone was amazed at how much my facial shape had changed! In particular, I had always been dissatisfied with my profile because of my recessed chin, but now they made a fuss about how beautiful my jawline was and said my face looked slim, as if I had gotten Botox haha. Perhaps because I also had my cheekbones and chin tip operated on, many people told me my face looked smaller than before and my impression was much softer. Above all, hearing that I looked naturally different without it being obvious I’d had surgery made me happy haha.
The funny thing is that once my facial shape changed, the hairstyle I used to wear somehow no longer suited me lol. So I changed my hair to a style I never would have considered before surgery, and surprisingly it suited my current facial shape much better~ I never expected double-jaw and facial-contouring surgery to bring changes like this haha.
Of course, I’m extremely satisfied with the changes in my appearance, but the biggest reason I decided on surgery was my severe jaw dislocations, and since the operation, my jaw has not dislocated even once! Before, my jaw would dislocate even while I was talking and make clicking sounds, which was often bothersome, but now those symptoms are gone and I’m living very comfortably. My bite fits well, and I eat food without restrictions, just as I did before surgery. In fact, I eat so well that gradually gaining a little weight has become the problem lol
Daily life has also become as comfortable as before surgery, and many people around me don’t even know that I had double-jaw surgery. People I meet after a long time just say that I look like I’ve lost a lot of weight lol. I’m personally even more satisfied because my facial shape seems to have changed so naturally.
The orthodontic treatment that felt endless has finally entered its final stage! I was so relieved after removing the braces, but today I went to get my retainer again lol. Still, my bite now fits well and I can live comfortably without jaw dislocations, so I’ll try to wear the retainer diligently^^ I initially started double-jaw surgery because of my temporomandibular-joint problem, but now my long-standing recessed chin and cheekbones have also been improved, so I’m satisfied in many ways. I had many worries before deciding on surgery and uncomfortable moments during recovery, but seeing my changed facial shape while eating and speaking comfortably makes me think I made the right choice haha. I’m so happy that the long journey of double-jaw surgery and orthodontic treatment is finally almost over^^
