Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

6-month review of double-jaw surgery and contouring surgery

Hello. It has been 6 months since my double-jaw surgery, so I'm leaving a review. Before surgery, the biggest complex I had was that my mouth looked protruded and my face looked long. I had no functional problems, but I wanted to improve my facial proportions, so after consulting at several hospitals I decided to go ahead with surgery. Because of the location of my inferior alveolar nerve, they said IVRO was safer than SSRO, so I proceeded with IVRO.Right after surgery, breathing was harder than the pain itself. The thing I remember most was not being able to breathe through my nose, so I couldn't sleep properly at night. After discharge, because of intermaxillary fixation I could only eat liquid foods, which was hard, but I kept walking to help manage the swelling.About a month later, when the intermaxillary fixation was removed and I ate rice for the first time, I still remember how freeing it felt. Around 3 months in, the major swelling was mostly gone and I could eat regular meals. However, my jaw felt a little stiff if I chewed for a long time, and sensation seemed to have returned to about 60%.Now, 6 months later, most of the residual swelling has gone down, and I can eat even chewy foods without discomfort. Sensation has recovered to about 90% as well, and lip sensation was the slowest to return.More than anything, what I'm happiest about is that my face became shorter and my mouth moved inward, so my overall impression became much more natural. People around me also said my face looked smaller, and because the change feels natural rather than artificial, I'm very satisfied. The recovery process was truly not easy, but looking back now, I think I made the right decision to have the surgery. If you're considering double-jaw surgery, I hope you consult with several hospitals thoroughly and choose the method that suits you most carefully.
