I originally had thick eyelids and eyes where the eyelashes scratched my eyeballs, but I kept putting off double eyelid surgery and everything else because I was scared... A few years ago I had entropion surgery, and because I’m not getting any younger, my eyelids drooped again. I was torn between getting entropion surgery again or a Fraxel treatment, but then I thought I should live the rest of my life with new eyes, so I decided to get double eyelid surgery.
I downloaded all kinds of cosmetic surgery apps and, at one hospital, I saw photos of natural adhesion surgery and thought they were so pretty that I went for a consultation. But they said that for me to get eyes like that, I’d need full incisional double eyelid surgery, front canthoplasty, lateral canthoplasty, and lower canthoplasty too, lol. The estimate was several times higher than I expected, but they explained exactly why it was necessary, so I just said, "I trust you!! Please do it!!" And as of today, it’s been 11 days since the surgery. Yesterday I had all the stitches removed and showed off my eyes everywhere, and everyone was like, "Who are you?" Then they asked where I had it done, so I felt proud. A double-eyelid-surgery veteran told me that before. If they just say, "It came out well," then that’s just normal, but if they keep asking where you had it done and what you had done, then it means it turned out well, lol.
On the day of surgery, they said I’d only be briefly asleep for the anesthesia and awake the rest of the time, but they made sure I could have it as comfortably as possible and put me to sleep. I was almost awake during the lower canthoplasty, but it wasn’t very uncomfortable, and during my entropion surgery before, I was really terrified by the smell of flesh burning. This time, it seemed like they took care to make sure there was as little smell as possible. I was hardly uncomfortable that day, and when I got home I slept like a log.
Days 2 and 3 were, well... as everyone knows, sausage eyes and egg whites... And because my eyes were so small, the conjunctival edema was severe. I spent the time using plenty of gel-type artificial tears and doing cold compresses nonstop. Even so, when I sent photos to friends who had had double eyelid surgery multiple times, they said that even though I looked like a total monster, the line was great and that once the swelling went down it would look good, so I felt proud.
On day 5, the evening I had the lower-canthal stitches removed, I had a schedule at a broadcast station, so I went wearing a hat and sunglasses, but I got caught running away because I refused to show my face no matter what. When I finally peeked out, the cast members all said it came out so well and asked which hospital it was, so I felt proud again.
After all the stitches were removed, even though the lateral canthal stitch sites were still wrinkled, I still thought, wow, I really made the right choice. The after photo I posted was taken right in front of the hospital right after the stitches came out. I really think care is important. I took good care not to let discharge crust up on the stitches, did my compresses properly, and didn’t do the things I was told not to do, so when the doctor came to check my progress, they praised me and said there was nothing to worry about.
If I had to give tips, I heard so many times that eye dryness can happen after canthoplasty, so I bought two types of artificial tears, watery and gel, and used the gel type when sleeping. Before bed, I gently cleaned the stitches and the inner eyelid skin with Blephazol so discharge and eye crust wouldn’t build up. For cold compresses, instead of short icing with ice, I put a gel pack I had kept in the kimchi fridge into a gauze cloth pouch and fixed it with a blackout eye mask, and if possible I tried to keep my eyes as moist as possible. Dry eyes can happen anytime, so you have to keep managing them steadily. I think the bruising and swelling went down really quickly once I started soaking gauze with a silver solution, covering it, and beginning cold compresses.
Anyway, I’m extremely satisfied. I want time to pass quickly so I can wear makeup. I keep going into every cosmetics store I pass by and testing eyeliner on the back of my hand, even though before I couldn’t even see it when I put it on, lollllll
I wish I had done it even one day earlier!
