I'm an old lady born in the Year of the Dog. When I was in third grade at national school, yes, I'm that old, President Park Chung-hee passed away. In my younger years, I lived buried in work, and the year I turned 50 by age, I quit what I was doing and came to feel that I should pay a little more attention to myself, whom I had neglected all this time. While doing all that legwork and footwork, I looked up so many hospitals and doctors and listened to other people's stories in places like that, and later, just by looking at the Before/After photos, I got to the point where I could tell right away, 'Ah, this person had it done at xxx.' On the day of my first consultation, I left with plenty of time, but I mixed up the subway station, so I ended up being about 20 minutes late because I had to turn back. While riding the subway back, I called the office manager and explained the situation. Since the consultation had been scheduled for quite late already, she might have been a little irritated, but she gave me caution and encouragement so I wouldn't get on the wrong subway again, and I was so, so grateful. Consultation with the director: It was almost 6 p.m., and it must have been exhausting to consult with someone who was late for the appointment on top of that, but he carefully listened to what I was curious about and what I wanted, and asked me all sorts of things about myself. I strongly felt that he wasn't just treating me as another surgical case. As you get older, you really feel grateful when someone listens to what you have to say and is curious about what you think. And at the same time, as I get older, it becomes harder for me to do that for other people. He explained in detail what I needed to be more careful about and what expectations I should have compared with people who have surgery in their 20s or 30s. After getting a detailed consultation about the abdominal area, which had been my biggest concern, I booked the surgery date right away. While talking with the office manager, I could feel infinite trust and respect for the director's skill. In fact, when I got the consultation there, I had already placed deposits at two other places, but after the consultation here I even thought, 'Ah, could I get back the deposits I placed at those two hospitals? No, I don't think I'd even be that upset if I lost them.' Fortunately, I got them back. On top of that, I was able to use the blood test I'd had just a few days earlier at one of those hospitals, so I didn't have to pay separately for bloodwork here. Surgery: I had abdominal surgery on May 13, 2021. I'm someone who can't stand pain, so I worried a lot about how I would endure the pain after surgery (since I had become an aunt who had worked in the U.S. for a long time, maybe I had gotten used to seeming strong in front of others, and I was so embarrassed for anyone to see me looking worried), but I was really amazed. First of all, the anesthesia injection didn't hurt me at all. I actually remember the person giving the shot worrying more that I might be in pain. Like other people said, I also heard them say, 'The injection is going in,' and after that I slept well and woke up lying in the recovery room with bandages and gauze on. The office manager and the medical staff came by often to check on me, and when they saw my feet were cold, they brought me adorable sleeping socks and put them on me. (I still wear them well to this day....) The director also came in, explained the surgery process and the fat that had been removed in detail, and went over the things I needed to be careful about afterward, as well as when the next checkup would be. Of course, it may have also been because I had just woken up from anesthesia, but I was really not in pain at all (there was discomfort, though, because the bandages and gauze were on and I could feel the swelling starting), so I was a little shocked. Everyone's pain tolerance is different, of course, but even someone like me who is scared of pain wasn't there, so I thought, wow... That's how I felt. So with about a month and a half left until the day I was leaving the country, I thought I might as well be a little more ambitious and immediately set dates for arm and thigh surgery. A 50-year-old aunt who had never even had a child, and among the surgeries I'd had, LASIK and appendectomy were the biggest ones... After meeting the director, I found courage I didn't even know I had, and since May 2021 I have been 'transformed from a bear into a fox' and have been living like the slim person I originally was. By the time I came back to the U.S., the swelling had gone down and the scars had healed, so as soon as I got back I started playing golf again, playing tennis again, doing hot yoga, and still living an active life. Before, I was an active bear, but now I'm an active woman in my 50s who takes great care of herself..... I remembered being told to come anytime for laser scar care, so when I came back to Korea in 2022 and contacted them, the person who answered remembered me and welcomed me very warmly.. I was so grateful for that too... Actually, the scars are so faint that you can't even find them even if you try to look at my armpits, and the marks on both sides of my pelvis are only barely visible, but I still wanted to visit the director and say hello, so I set up a date as a side trip. Since it was a big investment in myself, during recovery I also used Saxenda as part of my diet control, and when I went back to the U.S. I brought in 10 Saxenda pens. I didn't use it often, but on mornings when I expected to eat a lot or on days with gatherings, I would inject it, and this morning I used the very last drop from the last pen and got on the flight to Korea. I had quite a bit of exercise, so thankfully I didn't rebound. I've had a complex about my legs my whole life, so even at work I always wore pants suits, but these days I've gained confidence in my body, and after being out and about so much over the past year, there are now freckles and melasma slowly appearing on my face.... While I'm in Korea this time, I'm planning to get treatment at a good dermatology clinic... I hope I have as much luck finding a good dermatology clinic as I had meeting the director. ^^
