This post is written not to slander anyone, but for the public good, and I state that it does not contain false facts or subjective distortion of the facts. Consultation: nose revision surgery Director's name: Lee Gyuho I have had one nose surgery before, and for the past two months I had been going to plastic surgery clinics and ENT clinics after being diagnosed with a slight inflammatory reaction to the silicone + foreign-body sensation + early contracture (almost no visible signs). I am not someone whose nose has no usable material because of repeated inflammation, and other hospitals also recommended keeping it as it is since the inflammation seemed controlled, or doing surgery such as cleaning and replacing the silicone. But I personally regretted putting silicone into my nose when I was young and ignorant, and I wanted to remove the silicone and have autologous cartilage used to build up the bridge and tip. I knew that usually if the bridge is already somewhat high, either no implant or silicone is used, and I also knew there are limits to raising the bridge with autologous cartilage (not dermis), that there are side effects such as shape distortion, and that the shape is less defined than with silicone. After spending nearly two or three months visiting several plastic surgery clinics, getting consultations, and in my own way reading and studying all kinds of sites and cafes carefully, including various directors' opinions, journals, forums, and papers, of course there were also directors who would not do the surgery I wanted or could not do it, and when our opinions did not match, I would politely say thank you for their time and leave. After the first photo was taken, a computer screen showing the expected after-surgery shape with Photoshop was displayed, and the director came in. I had already stated my opinion during the manager consultation before meeting the director, and it was written in the chart, but as soon as the director came in and looked at the chart, he said he understood the problem with my nose, photoshopped it, and talked for over 10 minutes about improving the shape. I had not come to the consultation focusing on aesthetics or shape improvement, but since the director was speaking, I felt it would be rude to interrupt, so I listened until the end. Then when he asked if I had any questions, I explained my situation and asked whether he would perform a surgery using autologous cartilage for the bridge. (I asked very politely.) What I heard from Director Lee xx afterward was: - Are you the doctor? Are you better than me? I have an IQ of 148, so what is your IQ? Is yours higher than mine? Why are you deciding the surgical materials when you don't even know better than me? What you're doing right now is exactly like a cancer patient bringing the surgical method to a surgeon and asking them to do it like this. - So you've already decided all my surgical materials and are looking for a doctor who will operate according to that, right? What I find ridiculous (what I don't understand) is that this never happens anywhere else, but only plastic surgery patients come in with their own surgical methods and materials already decided, acting rude. - Did you go to medical school? Do you have more than 10 years of surgical experience? Even I, who studied for 6 years and has operated for over 10 years, still don't understand something, and you think you do? (Uh... no) Say it. You understand? Then why am I the one doing it, not you? (No, that's not what I meant, director..) What is your IQ? I said mine is 148, is yours higher than mine?!!!!! (I heard the IQ comment at least five times..) This kind of coercive and, clearly, coercive, one-sided, humiliating, and worst possible consultation went on for 20 minutes, and from the middle on I burst into tears and could not speak, just listening to this person's verbal abuse. I felt wronged and humiliated and I am still terrified. I have been to more than 15 plastic surgery consultations, and I met many directors whose style did not match mine or who did not perform the surgery I had in mind. Among them, there were some who tried to persuade and convince me by asking why I wanted surgery that way, some who strongly recommended a different procedure, some who just listened to me the whole time, some who seemed tired, and some who turned me away right away after hearing my opinion and said they would not do it themselves (there were three such doctors). If Director Lee Gyuho had simply expressed his opinion, tried to stop me, or stated his view a little strongly (the consultation manager said this was probably that side of it), I would not have cared, because I like hearing different opinions. But I think it is completely wrong to pressure and verbally abuse a patient who came for a consultation like that and not let the patient say a single word. The hospital staff will probably see this post, but if the director sees it, I want to say this. If I had gone to medical school and had a lot of plastic surgery knowledge and surgical experience, why would I bother going around for consultations and entrust my body after paying so much money? I don't know, and I'm uneasy, so I look for information online, study, and ask whether surgery with this material is possible because I am drawn to that material. I did not go around deciding everything in advance and looking for a doctor to suit my taste; I went to hear an expert's opinion, and in the process I simply voiced my own opinion. Did you want to get so angry just because it was a surgery you couldn't do or one you thought was not good, and then aggressively pressure a patient who is about 30 years younger than you? Are you upset that only people coming to plastic surgery clinics decide the materials and methods for their surgery? Plastic surgery is mostly an operation in which people without a specific disease intentionally create a wound and undergo surgery. We can express an opinion about whether to use silicone or rib cartilage. You seemed to have great pride in your medical degree and IQ of 148, but I also graduated from a SKY engineering school, and I am not some stupid sucker. Of course I may not be smarter than you in plastic surgery, but likewise you would be ignorant in the field I majored in, wouldn't you? Who would mock that like that.. And what do academic background, IQ, or appearance matter? I do not want to deal with people who lack character, manners, and attitude. If you see this, I hope you reflect once more on the consultation with me and on yourself, Director Lee Gyuho. Words alone do not convey the atmosphere well, but you were extremely coercive and, anyone could tell, you shouted while banging the desk, with your face red. This was my first experience like this, so I was flustered, wronged, and.. (That consultation manager was such a warm person. I could feel that she sincerely comforted me while I was crying my eyes out.)
