박현 — patient report

Review

The doctor feels a bit like a cult leader. It gives the vibe of, “Believe in me, and you will find enlightenment.” They wouldn’t tell me the surgical method, saying it was confidential, and kept saying that other clinics send their managers over, people come to steal information, and that they developed this surgery over ten years ago but everyone is copying it these days. I need to know how they are operating on my face, but they kept saying, “I’ll make it pretty, just trust me and lie down,” which made me not trust them at all. I agreed with the idea that the middle third of the face should be lifted for a prettier look, and I came after reading a blog post, but they didn’t even give a brief explanation of how the surgery would proceed. They only kept saying that others would copy it, and that I wouldn’t understand even if they explained, which was frustrating. And when I said I was considering double jaw surgery, they told me not to do it, but they never explained why or what they thought the problem would be. Even when I asked, they gave no explanation at all. Later they kept saying that if I kept asking questions, and if I was the kind of patient they didn’t like, they wouldn’t operate because I’d be annoying later too, so I had no choice but to sit there and listen without being able to ask anything. Even when I asked questions, they often didn’t answer. I only asked about 5 or 6 questions, but apparently that was already too many. The doctor was very set in their own views: it has to be done this way or that way, don’t ask questions, just trust me. But I’m the type who needs to be logically convinced in order to trust, so it was difficult. I’m a pretty strong-willed person. Even if others try to stop me, if I want something, I think it’s right to go that way, and I’m the one who bears the responsibility for the result. But if they completely ignore my opinion and just go in the direction the director thinks is pretty and correct, then if the surgery goes wrong later and I see a problem, will they even listen to me when I say it was wrong? A doctor with a very strong opinion means that if something looks right to them, that’s the end of it. My opinion matters more to me than the doctor’s, because I’m the one who has to live with this face. The manager said the same thing. Someone keeps stealing information, the director is excellent, patients must know because they keep coming here. But they were showing patients’ before-and-after photos without any mosaic blur there, and I don’t know if it’s okay to show them like that without permission. At other clinics, they would show only a PPT with some patients who had already consented, neatly organized, but here they just opened a patient folder and seemed to show a few people who turned out well. I don’t think selectively showing only those examples helps much in understanding a clinic’s surgical results. Before-and-after photos are better the more you can examine them, because they have to match your own sense of aesthetics. And when you’re unhappy after surgery, how the doctor or manager responds is also very important. But I read the reviews here carefully... yes, that’s exactly how it is.
