It’s been 1 year and 6 months since the surgery, and lately my life has been so depressing. I originally liked my face and had never really suffered any loss because of my looks. But every time I took a photo, my crooked nose was the only thing that bothered me, and I decided to have surgery with the sole thought of correcting that crooked nose. During the consultation, I think I conveyed my thoughts clearly enough to the doctor. “I already like my face as it is, so please correct only the crooked nose without changing the overall image or nose height. I like the slightly drooping tip and the current natural height, so I don’t want it to look like a surgically altered nose or for it to change.” I trusted that, as an expert, they would reflect my requests properly, but that trust was completely misplaced. Maybe the crooked nose that was my original goal got corrected, but everything else came out completely different from what I expected. The bridge became blunt and slide-like, and the tip became sharp and raised high. My original nose had a hump and large alar cartilages, and it was tall and three-dimensional. Aside from the crookedness, I liked my face because it had dimension and a defined line. I definitely conveyed that. But the doctor shaved down the hump completely and removed a large portion of the alar cartilages, smoothing out the entire three-dimensional contour of my nose. As a result, the bridge turned into a blunt lump, and the tip was pulled up sharply, making it look like an unnatural ‘surgical nose.’ The dimension and atmosphere of my original face disappeared without a trace, leaving only a smooth, short nose. Naturally, my family and people around me did not react well, but the doctor seemed satisfied, and in the end it felt like they had forced my nose into the mold of what they consider a ‘typical pretty nose.’ None of the conditions I wanted other than correcting the crooked nose were kept. I went to more than 15 plastic surgery clinics hoping it could be reversed with revision surgery, but the only conclusion was that the completely shaved-down hump and cut alar cartilages could not be restored. The problem was not only external. There were internal side effects too: I had surgery for rhinitis while getting the cosmetic nose surgery, and since the operation, my nostrils, nasopharynx, larynx, and tonsils have become extremely dry. At the same time, when I stand or sit, mucus runs down. At first I thought it was just a temporary post-op effect and would improve over time, but even now, 1 year and 6 months later, the symptoms still have not improved. After looking around and going to hospitals, it seemed like I had something like empty nose syndrome. The inferior turbinates, which regulate air temperature and humidity, were not functioning properly. In my case it was worse when I lay down; on bad days, when I woke up after sleeping, my throat hurt as if it had been torn apart, and I had an extremely severe headache along with the feeling that cold air was entering all the way into my head. I was worried about rhinitis surgery, so I deliberately chose an ENT specialist, and in my case it wasn’t excessive resection, but even so I ended up with side effects. Honestly, life has been so hard lately. I’m embarrassed to meet friends or acquaintances, and I don’t even want to face new people. I wear a mask every day and wipe my nose whenever I get the chance, and my sleep quality is terrible. Now, the thing I regret most in my life is having nose surgery. If I had one wish, I’d want to turn back time to just before getting the nose surgery.
