Pre-op condition and needs : Left nasal congestion due to a deviated septum, externally visible crooked nasal tip, a hump, drooping tip I wasn't greatly uncomfortable breathing, but if the crooked nose could be corrected, I wanted to do it in one go. I wanted nostril reduction. First of all, I wanted something very natural, so it wouldn't show. So I rejected all the suggestions I received, such as hump reduction and tip augmentation, and decided to go ahead with the non-incisional nostril reduction that this clinic promotes. <Before surgery> Q. When having deviated septum surgery, if the functional aspect improves, can the slightly crooked nose be straightened too? A. Yes. It can be improved a little. Current) The area just below the right nasal bone, which had been straight from the front, now caved in, making the crookedness even more pronounced. Doctor's response) Scheduled for consultation Q. I want something natural. Would nostril reduction look natural? A. Nostril reduction is like the appetizer of nose surgery. Trust the doctor and don't worry. Current) My smile feels unnatural, and the start of the columella was not visible from the front, but lifting that part made it look like a turned-up nose. Doctor's response) I intentionally raised the start of the columella. It looks nicer aesthetically that way. The slightly lifted look will come down over time. My view) There was no prior notice, no room for the patient to judge, and you just raise the columella because it looks nicer aesthetically? Q. Why do non-incisional nostril reduction? A. It is still there to this day. Doctor's response) It will go away with time. There is a knot tied with thread on the right side, so that could be why. My personal thought) Why wasn't I told this in advance if that could happen? My need was scar-free naturalness, and the doctor also said the reason for doing non-incisional nostril reduction was that there would be no scar, so why wasn't the possibility of scarring mentioned? <After surgery> Q. My nostrils became uneven. Even if they had originally been that way, the difference became much more noticeable. A. No, that's not true. Q. Please look closely; that's how it is. A. Hmm. That can happen. Let's wait and see. Current) As the nose settled, it became less noticeable. My view) If they knew the left and right nostrils were originally different and that nostril reduction would make that difference more noticeable, wouldn't it have been better to tell the patient? For someone who wanted natural results, not telling me even though they knew... it makes me think cosmetic surgery is ultimately part of the business side of things. Q. You said the crookedness would be corrected, but instead of being corrected, it became even more pronounced. A. Since you had a functional surgery, if you also wanted the cosmetic part addressed, I have nothing to say. Current) The right nasal bridge also caved in, making it even more noticeable. Doctor's response) Consultation planned regarding the sunken nasal bridge My view) At the consultation, they originally said some correction would be possible, but after surgery the story changed. Looking back, it seems they were trying to talk about possibilities. But I think there was a problem with the doctor's wording, because they did not say it as a possibility and instead made it hard for me to think about the negative side. Again, I guess this is the business side... maybe they just tell patients what they want to hear. Q. Was the septal caudal end also corrected? A. No, I didn't touch it. Current) Looking at the chart, the caudal end was corrected. Clinic response) Ah, the doctor probably misspoke because they see so many patients... My view) They can't even figure out the patient's condition, so what are they answering questions based on? Their ability to improvise on the spot is excellent; they defend and respond well immediately. If you point this out, they make it seem natural by saying, "I don't record everything I say with every patient. So I can't remember every single thing I said." I think that's wrong, and it's the doctor's gaslighting. ----------------------------------- Conclusion: The consultation content with the patient relies on memory, not records. That's why they don't remember what they said before. When you say, "But you said this back then," they either say "No" or improvise with a reason that fits the situation. They are kind in the sense that they answer questions, but all of the answers are defensive. They never admit fault or apologize. The doctor doesn't really know what surgery was done to the patient. They can seem friendly during consultation with a smiling face and answer questions well, but the business side of a salesperson comes to mind. Someone trying to sell something by any means necessary. From the consultation contents and the post-op consultation/results, I felt their expertise and skill were lacking. Especially since they're an ENT doctor, I don't think it's realistic to expect much in cosmetic surgery. From the beginning, I think recommending non-incisional nostril reduction itself was a way to make money without much risk because they didn't have the technical skill. After surgery, when I said breathing was good, they said it was a difficult surgery and that the method they used is one they're writing a paper about with a Seoul National University professor. Do they think the patient is ignorant? They probably expected me to be impressed by the words paper and Seoul National University. Saying they applied a method while writing a paper means I was basically a test subject. I wonder how little they thought the patient would know to say something like that. They say there is one year of free aftercare, but I think they're using the fact that the patient won't come back here as a marketing tool and taking advantage of that psychology. One-line verdict: It was my own fault for not avoiding this clinic, which I think is lacking. P.S.
