Eye Surgery review at Jeideobeuryujeongwon (제이더블유정원) · 2021-07-26

I had eye revision surgery at this hospital in January 2019. To overcome the complex caused by scars from a front canthoplasty I had 10 years earlier, I decided to have front canthoplasty restoration surgery. When I went in for a consultation about front canthoplasty restoration, they suggested several procedures together, saying, "You need revision eye-muscle correction too.", "You need revision double-eyelid surgery too.", and "If you have front canthoplasty restoration, the horizontal length of the eyes will become shorter, so you need back canthoplasty too." Seeing the confidence they showed in revision surgery, I decided to trust the hospital and have the operation even though it cost a lot. The front canthoplasty restoration, revision eye-muscle correction, and revision double-eyelid surgery were all performed by Director Choi Hong-rim. It took 3 to 4 hours to do these three procedures. But during the surgery process, I was shocked by the way they treated the patient so casually while speaking to me only informally the whole time. If the result had been good, I could have just forgotten it and moved on, but even now, so much time later, I’m still experiencing extreme pain because of the surgical results. After the front canthoplasty restoration, the horizontal length of the eyes is the same as before surgery, but from the side the amount of lower lacrimal caruncle exposure became much worse, and the restoration surgery actually left me with much more noticeable and severe scarring than before. In the case of the revision eye-muscle correction, after surgery my eye-opening force worked too strongly against my will, making it difficult to open my eyes, but when I mentioned this on the follow-up day, they pretended not to hear me and brushed it off. More than 2 years after surgery, I’ve instead had to hear evaluations like, "Your eyes look sleepy.", "The movement of your forehead and eyebrows is too excessive; you should get forehead Botox.", and "Although you had revision eye-muscle correction, no difference can be observed compared with before the revision eye-muscle correction. It cannot be said that the revision eye-muscle correction was properly done." Even so, because of the side effects of the eye-muscle correction surgery, my eyes look unnatural when I smile, and I have difficulty because of the discomfort when opening my eyes and the resulting fatigue. The lifting of the left eyelashes is severe, so opening my eyes looks unnatural. The revision double-eyelid surgery was done with the aim of relieving the double-eyelid scar I had before surgery and improving the line, but as a result of the surgery, when I look downward I got a severe double-eyelid line scar and ended up with a wrinkled line that is not pretty in shape. I have to keep hearing new criticisms from different people every time about my double-eyelid line, so the stress from that is severe as well. "It’s a sausage line.", "The line turned out too thin.", "A break in the line is observed.", "The connection of the double-eyelid line at the inner corner is unnatural." and so on... Even though the revision double-eyelid surgery was done by incision, my right double eyelid has already loosened again, and the asymmetry between both eyes is severe. The back canthoplasty was done by Director Kim Yeon-jun. Two weeks after the three procedures, I saw the surgeon for the first time right before surgery, and he looked at my eyes and went straight into the operation without saying much. I had thought lightly of back canthoplasty, so at the time I didn’t really feel any problem and went ahead with it, but I deeply regretted it right after the surgery. After the back canthoplasty, my impression changed for the worse, I could no longer smile with my eyes properly, and the pulling and discomfort at the surgical site were so severe. When I talked about this after the surgery, only then was I told about the method: they had cut the ligaments in my skin and fixed them to the periosteum with non-absorbable thread. They said the pulling and discomfort from the fixation would ease after some time, but even now the back canthoplasty site still itches continuously, and I still have difficulty because of the pulling and discomfort caused by the fixation. I also have severe eye irritation and dry eyes centered around the back canthoplasty site. Another problem is that they made the back canthoplasty uneven on both sides, and because I wasn’t in a situation where I could get revision surgery right away, I only had revision surgery after 6 months. But even now after the revision back canthoplasty, the asymmetry between both eyes is still very severe. After the surgery, everything in my life stopped, and I’m in a very mentally difficult situation. Thinking I couldn’t keep living like this, I looked around a lot for revision surgery, but neither eye-muscle correction, back canthoplasty, nor front canthoplasty restoration are easy procedures, so other plastic surgeons discouraged me from getting revision surgery. They say the problems are so complex that they’re hard to solve, and even if I do get revision surgery, they can’t guarantee improvement. Recently, while discussing these issues, I stated that I want a refund of the surgery fees because I gained no real benefit from the surgery and am instead suffering from side effects, but the hospital said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the surgeries and that they could only refund about 700,000 won for the loosened right double eyelid, then told me to sue them if I wanted to, and they are refusing even follow-up observation.
