I had my first tip rhinoplasty in 2018. The price is a bit fuzzy, so I can’t remember exactly. But since it was my first surgery and not an absurdly expensive place to begin with, I think ... In addition, I waited quite a while between visits and decided on surgery after a second consultation two years later, and they used the estimate from my first visit, so I remember it being cheaper than I expected. At the first consultation, he kept saying it seemed like I might not need to do it. But he kept saying that all the way until right before anesthesia on the operating bed lol. That made me think he had a very conservative outlook. The overall atmosphere during the consultation was warm and friendly, with praise for how well my fat grafting had taken. When talking about the nose, he really seemed like a specialist and I felt confident. My nose was long in proportion to my face, and the middle part of the tip had sagged and looked big, kind of like a long bulbous nose? I said I did not want big changes and wanted the proportions of my forehead, midface, and lower face to match. Then he showed me a nose-bone model and explained that he would trim the wings and pillar part of the nose tip bone, build a support structure with ear cartilage to lift the tip, and also cut the muscle that strongly pulls the tip down when smiling. He said my nasal bridge angle was so good that I absolutely should not add silicone to make it higher later, and tried to stop me in advance lol. He also said my nasal skin was on the thick side, so the incision scar would probably not be visible. (It really is almost invisible.) By the second consultation, I was already 90% decided on the surgery. It was still friendly and I remember it being a very professional consultation. I had heard that a celebrity famous for their nose had surgery here, and when I asked if that was true, they were extremely surprised and asked how I knew. I had come with my mother, and they said we were very nice lol. Then they suddenly told me a good story about that celebrity, which really warmed my heart lol. On the surgery day, I remember the anesthesia being sleep anesthesia plus local anesthesia. After it was over, the director kept admiring how much bone there had been to remove lol. (But wait, you were saying before anesthesia that I did not need it, doctor!! lol Still, he was kind of amusing.) The post-op care was also done with a lot of care by the nurse and the director. The result is the most important part, right? After surgery, the tip definitely became shorter, with not even a trace of an artificial feeling. In a way, it felt like my original nose had just been reduced to the proper proportions, which was fascinating and made me very satisfied. The reason I gave 4 stars for expectation level is not because of the surgeon’s skill but because of my own greed. People are endlessly greedy, I guess... I keep thinking, if the nostrils were reduced just a tiny bit more like in the app camera, and the tip were just a tiny bit higher, wouldn’t it look even prettier? That thought keeps creeping in... revision surgery thoughts and all... My conclusion is that Dr. Jang Ik-su clearly improved the problematic flaws of my original nose and maximized its natural beauty. But I think he does not significantly touch subjective flaws that are not really problems to others and exist only in one’s own personal sense of beauty. I also think he is less focused on “creating” that beautiful nose shape we praise as pretty, that subjective ideal, than a younger doctor would be!
