I had rhinoplasty when I was young, without really knowing much. After the surgery, I felt like I had become prettier, so I lived feeling satisfied, but as I got older, my face gradually started to look less attractive to me. I’m not the type to place a lot of importance on appearance, and I tend to be lenient with myself, so I think I simply blamed it on aging. In reality, the silicone on my nasal bridge had started to shift, and my nose was gradually becoming upturned, but I didn’t know what that was. I had known for a long time that my nasal bridge was crooked, but I think I tried hard to ignore it, and the thought of having cosmetic surgery again at this point felt like too much of a burden. Then, around late summer last year, the middle of my nasal bridge started to feel slightly uneven, and by fall, the eyelid on the side where the nasal bridge was crooked kept itching. I even got two very large styes, which I almost never get. I went to an ophthalmology clinic, got prescribed eye drops, and it improved, but even then I never thought this could be due to the silicone. I just thought it was dry eyes and seasonal allergies. To be honest, I still don’t know for sure whether it was related, but personally, I think it did have an effect. The symptoms disappeared after removal.
Anyway, after I felt like my nasal bridge had become uneven and bumpy somehow (only to the level that I could notice with the naked eye), I started searching online, and as I searched, I began to think this was not a simple issue, so I became more and more scared. Then I found out that in cases like this, you either have to remove the silicone or undergo revision surgery. I really never wanted to have cosmetic surgery again, so I started researching removal and narrowed down a list of hospitals said to be good at removal. First, I decided to get an accurate diagnosis of my condition and then figure out the next direction, so I did so-called online research, made an appointment at the hospital I liked the most, and visited. My goal was to have a natural-looking face and live without having to worry about my nose anymore. After listening to my story, the doctor said we should remove it, and when I kept asking whether my face would look strange after removal, he told me the chance of my nose becoming upturned was low and that it would look much more natural than now. Even after hearing the answer I wanted and coming home, I still didn’t feel relieved. When I searched, there were many successful cases after removal, but there were also many opposite cases, so I felt even more frustrated thinking that the results really could turn out differently depending on the person. So I made an appointment at one more well-known place and had a consultation there. As soon as they saw my nose, they said that if I only removed it, it would definitely become upturned, and that it needed to be lowered with septal cartilage or ear cartilage. Because the opinions were different, my mind honestly went blank for a moment. Then, as I thought it through calmly, I realized that each doctor has a different surgical direction they prefer, and in the end I needed to find a doctor whose direction matched what I wanted, so I sent a consultation text to the first hospital I had visited. Even though the hospital was closed that day, the consultant called me right away, and we talked for quite a while. She reassured me about the parts I was worried about, and I scheduled the surgery date right away.
Now, 3 months after surgery, I am living very satisfied. My nose neither collapsed nor became upturned, and when I meet acquaintances, I have heard several times, out of nowhere, that I look younger. I prayed that it would please just go back to my original nose, but to my eyes, it seems to have become prettier than my original nose. Tomorrow I’m going to the hospital for my 3-month follow-up appointment. As I was getting ready to go to the hospital, I remembered the moments when I was agonizing over it, so I’m writing this in hopes that it may help people who are worrying like I did. Please don’t be too scared, and don’t just keep searching. I hope you first visit a hospital and then think about the next step. I hope everyone finds peace.
