This is my subjective impression. I had the Baekjako nose surgery, and I definitely felt the drawbacks of a closed approach. You can basically consider that there is almost no contracture or shape deformation after six months, but there are limits to correcting a deviated nose, and after a few months there is the characteristic tip-upturning of a closed rhinoplasty. For closed rhinoplasty in Gangnam, it seems that ENT specialists are generally the ones who do it well. Because of the way the surgery is performed, the doctor seemed to focus a lot afterward on structural issues and the result. The advantages of Baekjako seem to be that the probability of contracture or inflammation is extremely low, there is no incision scar on the columella, and since the nasal tip uses autologous costal cartilage, the tip does not droop easily, which seems like the biggest advantage. During the consultation, they seemed to listen to the desired look about 80% of the time and mainly viewed things in terms of a natural nose versus a more glamorous nose. Maybe I should say they focus on the side profile. So I do not know if it is because of photo review events, but most people’s photos do not show the front view and are mostly 45-degree or side-view photos. There is a reason why so many highly skilled doctors in Gangnam use the open approach about 80-90% of the time, and I realized that only after surgery. Even if it is not 99% of deviated noses, if it is not corrected properly, it can lean to one side, causing columellar asymmetry and uneven nostrils, so the front view does not come out pretty. The rhinitis surgery seems to have gone well, but in terms of aesthetic sense, a board-certified plastic surgeon definitely seems better. The doctor was kind during the consultation too, but as with most doctors, after looking at you, it seems they work from the design they have in their head and just ask whether your desired look is more natural or more glamorous, then slightly adjust it. There is no detailed consultation. The consultation lacks detail. Even the consultation right before surgery seemed to be just checking the bridge, nasal tip materials, and height, then saying something like, “I’ll make it look nice for you.” Details like the glabella, the starting point of the nasal bridge, and the nasolabial angle are all decided by them. Looking at hospital reviews, the glabella is high in most cases. Since it is closed rhinoplasty, as far as I know there is no later scar management because there is no scar.
