Hello. This is a review of two types of male facial contouring surgery (square jaw and chin). Since childhood, my angular jaw had been a complex of mine. I had tried massage devices and orthodontic treatment, but I was someone who did not see much effect. I also grind my teeth severely, and because I ate tough foods, my masseter muscles developed even more. As I continued living that way, my upper jaw joint gradually started creaking too, and my jaw became even stronger. As time went by, my jaw started making clicking sounds, and later, every morning when I woke up, it felt sore and numb to the point that it interfered with my daily life. Since I had already had four teeth extracted for orthodontic treatment, I had basically given up on both the functional and cosmetic aspects. Then I thought I could no longer leave it untreated, and while looking up posts related to the temporomandibular joint, I came across Dr. Lee Seok-jae of Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on YouTube. For several months, I consistently watched real before-and-after cases and related reviews, listened to the doctor’s opinions, and watched videos of people with similar cases and concerns to mine improving. So I decided to book a consultation at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Because I had been watching him continuously on YouTube, I had somehow developed an inner sense of familiarity with the doctor. When I saw him in person at my first visit, it even felt like a fan meeting(?), so even though I talked about my situation in a really disorganized way, he kindly explained everything one by one. He truly distinguished between the functional and cosmetic aspects and spoke honestly without exaggeration or omission. It was a moment when I once again thought that my choice to approach oral issues through an oral and maxillofacial specialist was the right one. Among so many hospitals that are commonly called sales-driven(?), the doctor had none of that at all. He clearly organized which parts needed to be done first and afterward, so it was easy for me to make my own choice. And he is really not blunt at all! There were strangely many comments on YouTube saying he was blunt and unfriendly, so after seeing them over and over, I also left a comment saying he was not like that at all :) Also, he explained things with easy-to-understand examples and analogies without using specialist jargon, so even as someone having surgery for the first time, it was easy for me to understand. The consultant has also taken good care of me before and after the consultation with the doctor, and even now during my postoperative recovery period. If I have questions outside the scheduled appointments, she often contacts me through KakaoTalk too, so it feels like she is watching my surgical progress together with me. Rather than dreaming of a dramatic idol or celebrity-like result, I recommend going for a consultation after distinguishing between the cosmetic aspects you are pursuing and the later treatment purpose! I think satisfaction will naturally be very high :) <Before surgery> In my case, I started dieting right from the first consultation day. I had already made up my mind long before booking the consultation to eat everything I wanted in advance, so there was nothing I particularly craved, and for a quick recovery, I spent time walking often. Since tough foods have to be avoided continuously after surgery, if you like tough or sticky foods such as ribs, rice cakes, gum, yeot, and so on, I recommend eating plenty of them beforehand until you get tired of them. Other than that, after preparing the items the hospital instructed me to get, I looked up actual overseas surgery processes online. Since I studied the process step by step through videos, I was not particularly nervous or scared. On the day of surgery I was told there might be more traffic than expected, so I left early and arrived before the hospital opened. After unpacking and hearing the instructions and explanations, I saw the doctor and went into the operating room. I had already finished preparing myself mentally, and I had learned about the surgical process in advance. I had roughly guessed, ‘After surgery, this part will feel pulled inward and tight, and this part will probably hurt...’ so there was less pain than I expected. I vaguely heard the doctor say, “The patient’s surgery is finished~,” while half-asleep. I had not fully woken up, so I could not answer and fell asleep again. Maybe because I am a man, I had quite a lot of bloody phlegm, so it felt very unpleasant and like gravel was stuck in my throat. I passed the time dozing off, and after it became evening and I drank water, the scratchy feeling disappeared! They also suctioned me once, so I focused on breathing and worked hard to inhale and exhale through my mouth to get the anesthetic gas out. It varies by person, but for me, what remains more memorable than the pain is the recliner..! Of course there is swelling, and bleeding may continue, so without tilting your head back or bending it forward, you have to sleep on the recliner with it set almost upright. If sleeping while sitting is uncomfortable for you, I recommend thinking of it as staying up all night and getting plenty of sleep beforehand. In my case, I am vulnerable when it comes to sleep, so I came without sleeping well the night before surgery. After surgery, while breathing, I played single-round mobile games and did things I had been putting off, repeatedly sleeping and waking up, so the discomfort of sleeping while sitting in the recliner was less haha. Maybe you could call it fighting fire with fire,, Having other things to focus on and plans that I was working on right up until the moment before writing this review set in advance on the day of surgery made time go by a bit faster. They said I had to fast except for water even in the evening, but I did not really feel like drinking water either. I remember drinking less than one 500 ml bottle? of water. When they administered antibiotics? once in the evening, my stomach felt eerie and cold, so I really did not think about food. Throughout the day I was hospitalized, the hospital kept a radiator on near my feet. If you are sensitive to cold, it might be good to bring extra items like sleeping socks! After surgery I spent the night at the hospital, and morning came. Because I had to urinate, I drank water and urinated, then after my condition was checked, I saw the doctor. After the first postoperative visit / second visit, I received an instruction sheet with detailed future care methods and prescription medication, then was discharged! From this point, I had already heard that the compression band given by the hospital and swelling management are important up to week 4. In my case, I am a smoker, so I used the nicotine patches I had prepared in advance. I ate a lot of New Care, pumpkin porridge, plain white rice porridge, and various kinds of tofu. Rolled omelet, soft tofu, silken tofu (with yuzu dressing or oriental dressing), black soybean tofu, and so on. It was a time when I realized there are more tofu dishes than I expected. At this stage, my mouth really would not open, and I was told not to talk excessively, so I avoided phone calls as much as possible. Along with the compression band, I did cold compresses at first and warm compresses from day 4 onward, while reducing actions that could strain me and things that might cause inflammation as much as possible. I also frequently used Hexamedine gargle mixed with saline regardless of whether I had eaten, such as after waking up in the morning, after drinking New Care, right after meals, after walks if my mouth felt stale, right before sleeping, and so on. A useful tip is that walking really works well. I walked any reasonable distance. Even in the evening, I deliberately made time and made sure to walk 15,000 steps every day. And pumpkin juice,, for swelling, it goes without saying. Maybe because Danggwisusan and Newbein were added too, I did not feel it myself, but when I visited the hospital for my second postoperative appointment, everyone said the swelling had gone down a lot. So I definitely feel there is an effect, and even now, I am still walking and taking Newbein, Danggwisusan, and pumpkin juice. Acquaintances I met after a while without telling them about the facial contouring all said, “You look somehow slimmer..?” It was not obvious, to the point that everyone thought I had just dieted, and my recovery was fast. But even now, not all the swelling has gone down, and thinking that my appearance will continue to change at 3 months, 6 months, and even 1 year, my eating habits have become healthier. Most of all, walking has been added to my routine, so it feels like my life is becoming healthier too :) (*However, these days the wind is cold, so I think you should definitely pay attention to keeping warm with a mask, balaclava, etc.) If there are people like me who are thinking about facial contouring but are scared because of the risks, and especially men who find it hard to access information and are hesitating, I hope my review is helpful!
