Phew, finally next month will mark half a year since my nose surgery. Up until about one month after surgery? Time felt like it was passing so slowly, and I wondered if it was just me. I was also worried about when all the swelling would go down, but I guess time really is the best medicine when it comes to plastic surgery. One thing I felt again while going around to consultations this time is that, even if I don’t know about other surgeries, getting the nose exactly the way you want is really not easy...!!! I originally had occasional nasal congestion, and breathing through my mouth was almost a habit, so my lips would get chapped when I slept. But I never really felt like it was seriously hard in daily life, so I thought it was fine. But after going around to consultations, everyone told me I needed to do functional rhinoplasty too. Functional rhinoplasty?? I had never even thought about it, and I didn’t particularly want it.. but the clinic said I could get reimbursement, so I ended up doing it together. And after getting a CT scan, my airway really was blocked.. I was also worried that if I ignored that and had surgery, the shape might look good but functionally my nose might get even more blocked, so that’s another reason I got it done. I didn’t want a nose that was too natural, and I didn’t want a flashy nose either, so I only went for consultations at clinics that seemed good at finding an aesthetic somewhere in between. The things I considered important when choosing were: 1st, aesthetic sense; 2nd, materials; 3rd, the clinic’s response/service. Even if I liked all the materials, I felt it could fail if the aesthetic sense didn’t match mine, so after going around to consultations, I chose the clinic almost like ranking them. Banana was my top choice because, aside from functional rhinoplasty, I liked both the aesthetic sense and the response/service. For nose materials, I used silicone, septal cartilage, and donated costal cartilage. At first I was going to do 4 mm silicone, but I thought it might feel a little less natural-glam, so right before surgery I asked them to change it to 5 mm. Honestly, when I had the splint on after my nose surgery, the nasal congestion symptoms I usually felt got worse;; and my mouth got dry while sleeping, so I woke up often. Sleeping itself was uncomfortable in the first place.. so I did wonder if I had done it for nothing, but after the splint was removed, that thought completely disappeared. My nose became elevated in a natural-glam way, and my bulbous nose wasn’t visible anymore But maybe because I also had the side bones of my nasal bridge shaved down and did functional rhinoplasty together, the swelling did look pretty significant at first. I’m on the skinny side and don’t have much facial fat, so it felt like only my nose looked chubby? I think that continued to show until about week 2, and as it got closer to one month, my nose shape became much prettier. Before doing it, people around me said why would I get my nose done, that it was already just okay enough as it was, so I wondered if I should just not do it. But seeing the comparison, I think I’m glad I did it.. lol As expected, with the nose, I think it’s fine to have surgery just for my own satisfaction.
