I went in for a consultation because of my bulbous nose and wide nostrils. I had thought it was simply that my nostrils were wide and my nose looked blunt, but they explained that in reality, skin thickness and the cartilage structure also play a role. They even analyzed the causes, like whether it spreads when I smile and why it looks like a bulbous nose from the front, so it was easy to understand. For a case like mine, they explained that they do not perform surgery by unconditionally reducing everything. They also explained the risks and scarring that can occur if the nostrils are reduced excessively, and said they operate in a way that minimizes scarring. They told me that if I get too ambitious with bulbous nose correction, the nasal tip could end up looking unnatural, and I liked that they honestly discussed the possible range of change, surgical expectations, and limitations. The doctor’s consultation style was calm overall, not the very lively type. The consultant was also kind, and there was no pressure to decide right away, so I was able to leave feeling comfortable. They told me to think it over more at home and contact them later, so it didn’t feel burdensome. I had been vague about bulbous nose correction / nostril reduction, but it was a consultation that helped me organize my thoughts and was helpful in its own way.
