When I went for a removal consultation, I lay back in the ENT chair, and they spread my nostrils and checked with a light, then said it looked like too much had been harvested! And then they looked again with an endoscope and said one side was deviated. But they say it’s rarer to have a perfectly straight nasal septum, right? I had already heard from an ENT that mine was deviated, and they said it wasn’t severely deviated to this degree, so I just accepted it.
At other plastic surgery clinics, they said CT can’t tell, and even an endoscope can barely tell; you only know once you go into surgery and open it up, and most of it is an estimate. But Hospital A says it was overharvested and that I may need septal cartilage reinforcement.
Is it really possible to tell the remaining amount of septal cartilage visually by spreading the nostrils and shining a light? Looking at consultation reviews for this place, it seems like they mention reinforcement to more than half of people, so I’m wondering if they’re saying that because it really was overharvested.....? If so, I feel like they should be saying reinforcement is necessary, not that it may be necessary.
The more consultations I go to, the more confused I get because every doctor says something different.
