I had surgery at a clinic known for zygoma surgery.
During the consultation with the director, they put my CT scan images on the monitor and explained while looking at them with me. They said my zygomas were on the large side compared with the average person, and that instead of reducing only one side a lot, they would reduce them by angle to keep a three-dimensional shape. They said the 45-degree zygoma should remain slightly for the facial line to look prettier. I was told that during zygoma surgery, osteotomy is done in 2 places, and that they would use a method that minimizes sagging as much as possible.
The reasons I had surgery here were 1. posterior zygoma reduction and 2. temple reduction. Because they push in from the very back of the zygoma, the posterior zygoma does not look like it remains, and the front-view facial width looks much narrower, which was a plus.
For temple reduction, it also seemed like there were no clinics doing it other than this one, and they said a face like mine would see a better effect if the temples were done too, so I had it together. (Temple reduction surgery does not shave the bone; it removes the temporalis muscle and fat pad so the temple area does not look protruded.) => It is not necessarily better to always do it together; when you go for a consultation, the director will examine you and decide whether to do it together or not.
It has now been 3 months since I had the surgery, and maybe because the posterior zygomas are gone and I also did temple reduction, I can see that my face width has decreased a lot, so I have been living with satisfaction. Because my zygomas were so large, my face usually looked broad and my whole face itself looked big, which bothered me. Now I can confidently tuck my hair behind my ears, and even if the wind blows, I am totally fine with it?
Since it was a one-type zygoma surgery, I did not stay hospitalized and was discharged the same day. (They say if jaw surgery is included, they recommend one day of hospitalization.) The small bruises all disappeared after about 1 month, and the swelling was not that severe to begin with, but honestly I do not really know how much swelling is still left now. At 3 months, I feel like it is hard to distinguish the swelling with the naked eye. But when I look at reviews from people who had surgery, they say it continues to go down even until 6 months or 1 year, so I am planning to take photos regularly and compare them haha. Online, people say daily life is possible after 2 weeks, but honestly, 2 weeks is just in words; I think you should allow a full 1 month to feel somewhat comfortable.
Right now, I do not really have pain, I can open my mouth well, and I am eating well too, but foods that are too tough can strain it, so I still have not even touched them.... ha
By my standards, I am still very satisfied and it is a surgery I do not regret. Anyway, everyone, research clinics carefully and become prettier!!
