I’m someone who likes a dramatic nose, but I prefer a nose that’s kind of between a straight-with-slight-curve line and a semi-boseon-sock line. If I compare it to a celebrity, it’s like Oh Yeon-seo’s nose, but with the nasal tip a bit more defined? That’s the line I prefer.
As for what I look like, I think my nose isn’t bad from the front (strictly my own opinion though;). But my side profile is a bit of a problem. The nasal tip droops downward, and I have a long midface. When I smile, it becomes a hooked/arrow nose. Also, from the side, my midface looks quite sunken, so it also gives the feeling that my chin sticks out. I thought that if I made my nose taller, that part might be improved somewhat... So I asked for it to be dramatic. But I asked them not to raise the bridge too much. I don’t really have much desire for the nasal bridge. I have a lot of desire for the nasal tip lol
During the consultation, they said they would use donated costal cartilage, ear cartilage, septal cartilage, and silicone, do cartilage binding, and shave down the hump. In my view, it felt like the director packed in every surgery he could do, so it felt reassuring;; (Using a lot of materials doesn’t mean it’s good. Just my personal opinion.)
Anyway, during the consultation, all I did was briefly show the main areas I wanted fixed and the photos I wanted, and ask how the surgery would proceed. (I had studied the differences in materials and stuff like crazy on YouTube, so I felt it would be a waste of time asking during the consultation.) I thought about it for a day and made the surgery reservation by phone.
Day of surgery First, they took photos with a camera from the front, 45 degrees, side, and below the face. Then I changed clothes (into surgical clothes). I took off earrings and necklaces, washed my face, and met the director. We had a design consultation, and I had time to ask in detail everything I wanted to ask. When the design consultation ended, they told me to follow them, so I did, and it was the operating room lol (Ah, no warning at all?ㅠ) Then they gave me some kind of injection, but I don’t remember. They told me to keep my eyes closed, so I closed them, and when I woke up, the surgery was over.
First, I was thirsty, so I asked for water and drank water. Honestly, because of the anesthesia, I didn’t remember anything anyone said. After the surgery, the director came out and said the surgery went well, so whew, I felt relieved. (Honestly, that’s all I remember; sorry) The tip here is, for what they tell you at that time (how to apply ointment and extra explanations about what they give you), I think it’s best to politely ask, sorry, could you send it to me by KakaoTalk, and receive it by KakaoTalk. Because of the anesthesia, I feel like more than half of people probably come out barely listening for real.
Now this is my personal post-op review.
Day 1 It was just like, ah, I got surgery lol I actually got surgery~ That kind of feeling. Because of the anesthesia, it didn’t hurt either. So I was thinking, oh what, it doesn’t hurt at all, rhinoplasty is no big deal .. but almost as soon as I thought that, my nose started hurting at dawn. It’s pain you could endure if someone paid you several million won to endure it. But we’re paying money like suckers and getting pain, right? Ha, why did I get nose surgery, I should’ve just lived with the way I was born, that thought repeated endlessly.. Plus it was hard to breathe because of the nasal packing lol (But since I have chronic rhinitis, I slept pretty well in my own way.)
Day 2 It just hurt. I couldn’t breathe either. Oh, and from Day 1, there was some discomfort because of the cotton inside my nose, and it was when swallowing saliva or swallowing something. Everyone, try pressing your nose really hard with your hand and swallowing saliva. You feel that stuffy ear sensation, spicy sensation in the nose, and a weird pressure difference like something went down the wrong way in your throat, right? Like swallowing water wrong underwater..? That will continue until the nasal packing is removed. It’s hellish.
Day 3 They removed the packing this day. Originally, the place I had it done seems to remove it the day right after surgery, but for me, this monster called Thursday “closed day” was in between, so I endured one more day. Removing the packing that day was pain that was tolerable. It felt like something warm and large was pouring out of my nose like kwa-rararak..? If clotted blood came out of your nose, it would probably feel like this. But the problem was the disinfection. The disinfection... made me want to die... I kept thinking inside, oh, is it over? Oh, is it over now? But it didn’t end, so I asked the nurse, is it over now? Please say it’s over., and she laughed so hard. I gained pain... and I gained shame. You all should just endure it.
Once the packing came out of my nose, I really felt like I could live. Other people said they were so happy because they could breathe through their nose, but for me, breathing through my nose caused some stinging and annoying pain, so I just breathed through my mouth (idiot confirmed). But.. I didn’t want to strain my nose... And my nose was open, but from some point, it gradually became blocked, and the terrible collaboration of runny nose and nosebleed (runny nose 70, nosebleed 30) started attacking my philtrum. From this point, I got kind of pissed. (It wasn’t gushing out like a nosebleed, but it came out with sniffles every 5 minutes, so I wanted to die.) Surely it won’t keep doing this? It’ll stop after a few hours... I thought, but it kept happening.... But since I just had surgery, I couldn’t blow my nose, and because of the risk of inflammation/infection, I couldn’t just wipe it roughly with tissue either. I bought sterile cotton swabs to use when applying medicine, but in reality I used 80% of them for wiping snot;; Cost-effectiveness is absolute trash.
Day 4 That’s today. The runny nose and nosebleed are still coming out like crazy, and I still have nasal congestion. Oh, and what’s interesting is that the runny nose and nosebleed don’t come out when I sleep? They come out when I talk or take some action. I don’t know why. If I stay still and keep my mouth shut, they don’t come out.. And the only thing my post doesn’t have is a review about swelling, and the reason is that swelling goes down with time, so I don’t pay attention to it. To write a few words for those worried about swelling, from the night of Day 3, I became a hamster, that’s about it..?
