I went into surgery at 11:00 a.m. on December 7, 2005, and came out at 5:00 p.m.
My nose wasn’t just a normal nose. When I was little (fifth grade), I crashed into a motorcycle while riding a bicycle, so the inside of my nose (the septum) became deviated, the area beside the bridge on my aquiline nose was wide, and the nostrils were flat and spread out... ㅠ_ㅠ I’m pretty sure if you search my ID in the photo board post titled “How about fixing it?” it’ll come up.
The surgery corrected the deviated septum, narrowed the sides of the bridge, shaved down the hump, slightly raised the nose with dermis from my buttocks, supported the alae with septal cartilage, and slightly lifted the tip with ear cartilage. It was such a huge surgery!! For anesthesia, they said I could do sedation, but they recommended general anesthesia because they thought I wouldn’t be able to endure it. I was worried before the surgery, but after reading posts here, I think it was an excellent choice.
First, to harvest the dermis from my buttocks, I had to lie face down and get local anesthesia in my buttocks... it hurt like crazy. About 30 minutes later, after they finished harvesting the dermis and I lay back down, they looked at my wrist, the back of my hand, and my arm to try to place the IV needle... Then they said, “Your veins have gone underwater”... Even before that, when I got an IV in Thailand for food poisoning, the nurse had a really hard time... so that’s why that happened... Anyway, they finally found a vein, inserted the IV needle, injected the big dose of anesthesia, and the anesthesiologist said, “Have you ever had general anesthesia before? When you wake up, it’ll feel like you caught a cold. Think of it as catching a cold once. This is the oxygen mask. Shall we take one deep breath out? One, two......” From that point on, I have no memory.
When I woke up, the first thing I saw was my mom. She was happy that I had woken up... Then my head started hurting. Just like the anesthesiologist said, I felt like I had a cold... The doctor came by, said the surgery had gone well. I thanked him... My mom said that about two hours later, the recovery room called to say the surgery was almost over, but when she kept waiting and still didn’t hear that it had finished, she went up to the operating room on the floor above... ㅡ0ㅡ Then they told her that after the big surgery (correcting the deviated septum, cutting the bone, and shaving it), they were now doing the cosmetic part, so she didn’t need to worry. Two doctors performed the surgery. After about six hours of surgery, I supposedly woke up from the anesthesia about 30 minutes later. Then I went home by taxi after getting an IV... While I was on the IV, the headache eased a lot. Once I got home, I first drank pumpkin juice and had pumpkin porridge for dinner.
After surgery, I can tolerate everything else, but the most uncomfortable part is that they put cotton in my nostrils, so I can’t breathe through my nose. I normally breathe only through my nose, so breathing through my mouth is uncomfortable too, and since I can only breathe through my mouth, my mouth keeps drying out and it’s irritating... I keep waking up while sleeping... I woke up at 5:30, drank pumpkin juice, took Tylenol, rested a bit, then turned on the computer and wrote this. The swelling wasn’t as bad as I expected. It really looks like Jang Seo-hee’s puffy face... ㅡ_ㅡ I wrote this as detailed as possible because I thought there would be a lot of people worrying before their first surgery. I wrote it while my mind was all over the place, so I don’t even know what I wrote...^^ I’ll take photos and upload them about two months later. To everyone who has surgery coming up, fighting!!
