I had surgery on December 16, and now I’m entering day 9. I had jaw surgery. The first and second days really felt like the longest time in the world. It only stung a little when the IV needle went in, and I only remember the anesthesiologist saying, “We’re starting the anesthesia now.” After that I don’t remember anything at all. Right after I woke up from anesthesia, there was a little pain, but when I touched the jaw area wrapped in a compression bandage, my jaw was gone. So in my case, I felt more joy than pain. It depends on how you think about it lol Anyway, after the surgery at first, I stayed until around 11 a.m. the next day. That night was the critical point. I had a cold too, so phlegm and a runny nose were stuck in my throat and it was hard. Honestly, the surgical area itself was bearable. I was miserable because of the cold. My nose kept running and I kept coughing. The pain was a little worse the day after surgery than on the day of surgery. Until the second night, I really had no appetite at all, so I ate a few spoonfuls of porridge and just kept applying ice packs. I thought I’d swell more if I lay down, so I kept sitting up. Since I had it done on Friday.. around Sunday, my appetite suddenly came back like crazy. At this time, what you eat doesn’t turn into weight. So if you do get it done, it’s good to eat a lot of different things. I ate a lot of yogurt, juice, and porridge. Especially yogurt, I ate it all the time. (Honestly, I couldn’t eat anything else...;;) On day 4, I took off the facial compression band. Since I’m not someone who swells a lot, instead of worrying about when the swelling would go down, I just thought about how my face would look pretty in two or three months. Worrying now won’t make the swelling go down right away anyway. Time is the medicine. lol Honestly, they deliberately cut into living flesh, so how could that swelling go down right away? So even now, I’m just living in a good mood. The uncomfortable part is that I still can’t chew well, so I’m eating porridge. If I open my front teeth, it opens enough for about two fingers to fit in, and I have no trouble speaking, but my chewing strength has become extremely weak. I can’t chew hard. I still have stitches, and sometimes my jaw has a dull aching pain. They say this sometimes hurts because it’s the process of the jaw and muscles attaching, but other than that there isn’t any major pain. I’m a little bothered by the faint bruising on my cheeks and the feeling that I’m holding something hard inside both cheeks. It’s unfortunate that I can’t take pictures and upload them, but if I describe my appearance.. each angular part is just more rounded than before surgery?? They say once the swelling gradually goes down, the side jaw angle will show and the front view will look slimmer too. From the side, since the jaw is gone, it looks like a slim jawline with a little flesh on it? I’m totally moved by the side profile, which is so different from before. They say swelling usually goes down unevenly. So I’m not really worried about that either. I wish time would pass quickly. I want to wear hats, get a perm, and sweep my hair back soon~^^ That day will come, right? For those who are worried now, and those debating whether to have surgery, I hope you don’t hesitate and decide on a good hospital and do it. I’m so happy that I got rid of the complex that was the most irritating in my life and that I desperately wanted to hide. I really used to hide behind my hair every day, hats didn’t suit me, and especially on windy days I walked with my head down, but now thinking that I won’t have to do that anymore makes me feel I really made the right choice. Of course it hurts after surgery. I was also very worried. About 4 days of pain and discomfort.. and if I just manage the swelling well for another month or two, I can feel confident for the rest of my life. Thinking of it that way, I think I was able to endure it really well and in a good mood. The key is to properly consider your own face and consult well on how much of the jaw to shave, cortical bone osteotomy, fat removal, and things like that, so you can trust that the surgery will be done well without looking awkward or strange, right?? I worked really hard with ice packs, and now I’m working hard with warm compresses. In a few days I’ll also do half-body baths, so I need to keep managing it consistently~^^ Then I’ll upload photos once the front view shows a clear difference. Merry Christmas~~
