I’m leaving a review of my breast surgery at Sway I’ve had my 1-week follow-up appointment, and as of today it’s exactly day 10! I’ll write it up briefly and quickly. * Day of surgery : General anesthesia was my biggest worry. On the day of surgery, as the surgery time got closer and closer, I kept worrying the most about this part, thinking, what if I don’t wake up..?... Right before I went into surgery, the director personally explained things to me one-on-one in the recovery room while going over the consent form, and told me there was absolutely no need to worry about general anesthesia, and that the anesthesiology director would take good care of me so it would really be okay. I don’t know how he picked up so well on the part I was worried about, but hearing that before surgery put me at ease. And lastly, since I have pectus excavatum, I told him I was worried about side effects affecting the breast shape, such as symmastia or the nipples gathering inward and facing each other, and he reassured me again by explaining other examples so I wouldn’t worry. Honestly, by the time I was about to go into surgery, my mind went blank, and I was just a bundle of worries, aesthetics or whatever aside. * After surgery : It took almost 3 hours, and maybe because they removed the accessory breast tissue too, it took longer than I had expected. They moved me to the recovery room in a wheelchair and I was lying on the bed. I don’t know if it was because of the painkillers or what, but I didn’t feel pain. My chest just felt tight and heavy, and because I had to move carefully without using my arms, I only felt discomfort.. I wonder how many minutes passed, then suddenly my chest started hurting more and more I asked for painkillers and got them, and then I felt okay again. In the middle of all that, I was curious how many cc went in. The nurse and consultant came in and checked carefully whether I was okay and whether I had any discomfort. Even though the electric blanket on the bed was turned on, I was cold I didn’t even have the strength to press the call bell, so I was shivering, and when they came in I told them right away. They turned off the air conditioner and pulled the blanket up to under my neck, so I survived. The director also came in, checked my condition, and told me the size. It turned out they had put in less than the cc we originally talked about before surgery.. It had been 380 or 360 on the left and 450 or 420 on the right, but when they actually put air in? inflated it? (I don’t remember the exact wording, anyway!) the nipples gathered inward, so he said he put in 340cc on the left and 400cc on the right. Since the cc was even smaller than the size I had originally been considering, I felt disappointed? regretful? but after hearing the explanation I immediately understood!! They checked me again when I was leaving, and my breasts were very clean with no swelling or bruising. Since they removed the accessory breast tissue, there was only slight bruising around the armpit area, but gauze was attached so I couldn’t really see it... The sternum area of my chest where the breast stabilizing bar was placed started hurting more and more severely. It felt like someone was pressing doooooown with all their strength using their thumb, painful enough to bruise So when the director came at the end, I asked whether I had to keep doing this.. seriously... Thinking I’d have to do it for a week until the next follow-up felt overwhelming.... * Day of surgery to day 3 : I live outside Seoul, so I had to drive 3-4 hours back down, so I stayed at a nearby hotel for about two days. Pain in the sternum area where the breast stabilizing bar was placed + sleeping was real suffering.... Sleeping sitting up was torture.... I thought my butt and tailbone were going to get sores Even sitting at an angle, getting up was hard, so my husband did everything, lifting me up and laying me down... Lying down and getting up were hard to do by myself.. At dawn, I tried to go to the bathroom by myself and squirmed around for 5 minutes, then pushed the bed next to me with my foot and used the rebound to get up... Even things I could do, like opening a water bottle cap or pushing and closing the bathroom swing door, I didn’t do if they required strength in my arms or chest... When driving back down, whenever we passed roads with potholes or pavement that wasn’t smooth, the car shook and my breasts shook and hurt, so I got tense whenever I saw speed bumps.. * Days 4-7 after surgery : I could lie down and get up by myself. I was getting a little better. I also got used to the pain in the sternum where the breast stabilizing bar was placed...?... I don’t know if the pain disappeared or if I got used to the pain.... Sleeping was still torture............. When I lay down at night to sleep, it hurt so I couldn’t sleep, and only when I was exhausted and passed out could I sleep in short stretches of 1-2 hours. Even then, I’d wake up because my butt, back, and lower back hurt, walk around a bit standing, sit in a chair, and once my butt, back, and lower back felt okay, I’d lie down again to sleep. One day I was so sleepy, but I couldn’t lie down, so I felt like I was going crazy.... So I thought, whatever, and lay down with the pillow tilted at almost 20 degrees, but the pain from the implant pressing down heavily was so strong that it hurt and I couldn’t do it.. Other chest pain wasn’t so much pain, but more an unpleasant feeling like muscles twitching or tingling, and a creepy feeling. * Days 8-10 after surgery On day 8 after surgery, I went for my first follow-up. I took an express bus up, and even though the vehicle shook, my breasts didn’t hurt anymore. When I visited, a staff member? at the desk guided me, and in what was either the recovery room or treatment room, they removed the upper band, compression bra, and breast stabilizing bar. Heaven... I felt like I could live again After that the director came and checked me, and maybe because of a tape allergy, my skin had red hives-like bumps, and the accessory breast area was sooo swollen... I had felt something bothering me whenever I moved my arms, and I never thought that would be the accessory breast area...... He showed me stretching positions and told me to do them often, and said to do one more week, then adjusted the compression bra size and upper band. At least the breast stabilizing bar was removed. Because I have pectus excavatum, I’m worried that the cleavage might come together and that maybe I should still be using the stabilizing bar But since I’m wearing the compression bra, it’ll be okay, right...? I am getting better day by day, but I have to be careful for months, so I wish time would pass quickly. Lastly, I took comparison photos from before surgery and day 10 after surgery... hahaha I think it’ll look better once the upper fullness settles...
