[Plastic surgery consultation review] 1. GNG ENT Clinic - A hospital where my friend had nasal reconstruction after breaking their nose. It was famous when I was researching online, but there were occasionally some bad reviews. (I don’t think they were about Director Hong, though.) - I had a consultation with Director Hong Seong-moon, and just like the reviews said, he explained only exactly what was necessary. - He said my nasal septal deviation and the mucous membrane being swollen on one side probably made it a bit hard to breathe through the left side. But breathing is subjective, so there are people worse than me who say they’re fine, and people better than me who say it’s hard to breathe. - They would straighten the nasal septum and cauterize the mucous membrane with a laser to make it shrink a bit. - For the nose shape, he said he would incorporate the feel of the reference photos I wanted, but he didn’t teach me detailed drawings or the surgical method. - The columella itself is not centered and is deviated, and since that cannot be touched, there may still be asymmetry after surgery. - The columella would be done with donated rib cartilage or autologous costal cartilage, and the nasal bridge could be done with silicone or a material made by grinding cartilage. - He said both donated rib cartilage and autologous costal cartilage have no major side effects, and the difference in absorption rate is very minimal. He said silicone gives the cleanest shape for the nasal bridge and does not get absorbed. However, if I dislike having a foreign material inside, a material made from ground cartilage is also possible. There is no major difference in increasing the height. - For nasal bridge height, since I had thread lifting and filler, they can only know after dissolving the filler. + The silicone seems to be FitMe Nose, and he said it has to be custom-ordered in advance. - There is CCTV in the operating room, and the hospital can provide documents for actual-expense insurance. - If using donated rib cartilage, it is done under sleep anesthesia; if using autologous costal cartilage, it is done under general anesthesia. An anesthesiology specialist is on site. - I was originally trying to have surgery during Chuseok week, but surgery slots were full that week, so I couldn’t make a reservation at all. - Overall, it was generally okay. 2. Jayjun Plastic Surgery - I had a consultation with Director Kang, and he said the same things as GNG regarding the functional aspects of the nose. - Here, they don’t do functional rhinoplasty separately, and he said if they touch the nasal septum, it means removing bone, so the bone can become weak and the nasal bones can bend. - Overall, the consultation was kind, and he explained everything I asked in detail. - Since it is a hospital mainly focused on aesthetics, I asked mainly about aesthetics, and here too they said rib cartilage + silicone would be needed. - I asked about custom-made silicone, and he said that is made and used for special cases, like if the nose was injured before or the skin is uneven. They can do it, but the cost goes up, and he said it probably wasn’t necessary. - Overall, he felt my nose and explained while drawing pictures. - After the director left, the consultant came in and said that he had said I seemed to want a flashy nose. (Even though I prefer something natural.) I think there was a bit of a communication error. - Also, he didn’t mention ear cartilage during the consultation, but the consultant said he had said they would use ear cartilage too. (When I heard this, I was like, huh?) - He said the surgical method would be rib cartilage for the columella, ear cartilage for the nasal tip, and silicone for the nasal bridge. - It seemed like everyone was fully booked for surgery during Chuseok week, so I first put down a deposit and went for consultations at other hospitals. 3. RU Plastic Surgery - I hadn’t researched this place that much online, but the results looked good, so I made a reservation. So I didn’t go in knowing a lot of information. - I was also a bit worn out from going to consultations before this, and I did go while feeling a bit tired. - I had the consultation with the consultant first, and overall, she was bright and kind. It was a very comfortable atmosphere. - During the consultation with the director, unlike other hospitals, he explained the surgical process and material characteristics in detail using a PPT. - I showed the reference photos I wanted, and he said they would suit me well. He talked about my facial features, saying things like, because my brow bone is developed, raising the glabella a bit would still look natural. He also mentioned some angle, but I forgot. He took a photo of me with a tablet and explained while drawing on it. He said one angle is a bit high, which can make the mouth look protrusive, so he would adjust that to around 90 degrees, and the nasolabial angle could just be lifted as is, etc. He pinpointed and explained exactly the areas I was worried about. + Since I like a natural look, I said I hoped the nasal tip wouldn’t be raised too much, and he picked up on that too. - Rhinitis surgery can be done together too, but unlike other hospitals, here it seems to be done with something like nasal septum reinforcement?? - At Jayjun, I heard that because the nasal septum is bone, to straighten the deviation they have to remove bone, and then there is a risk of bending, so I told him that exactly. He said that here, they slice the rib cartilage, remove the deviated part of the nasal septum, then place rib cartilage on both sides to hold it, also support the columella area with rib cartilage to build the foundation, and then place silicone on top. - He said nasal septal cartilage can be used, but if it is trimmed, and silicone is placed on top when the foundation is somewhat collapsed, that may later become a side effect? I don’t remember exactly. Anyway, he said that because Korean people generally have small septums, it is better not to cut it. - I showed him the reference photos I wanted, and he said they would suit me well. - He seemed very confident and explained things clearly and easily, like a teacher. - Of course, he said they would also cauterize the mucous membrane area a bit to reduce its size. - Afterward, the consultation with the consultant also felt very relaxed, and she did not push excessive procedures. - In the end, I decided to get nasal tip with autologous costal cartilage + silicone nasal bridge + bulbous nose correction + thread removal + filler dissolving + 2 types of rhinitis treatment. - Above all, they have a lifetime aftercare principle, and he said that even if I’m not satisfied aesthetically, the director would do the surgery again with only the material cost charged. I liked that point too, and he said swelling injections, swelling laser, scar laser, and scar tissue injections after surgery are all provided free of charge. - I had heard in reviews that the price was really high, and it really was high. - I put down the deposit for now and came back. They said it’s hard to refund deposits for Chuseok week, but I went for it anyway. - Since I need to undergo general anesthesia, I have to dissolve the filler in advance + visit an internal medicine clinic for a checkup. - Almost all the results looked good, so I went for it, but I think I need to look into it more.
