Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

I’m 2 months post-op after getting double-jaw surgery for a long chin and protruding jaw at an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic…

<Before surgery><Before surgery><After surgery><After surgery>The reason I decided on double-jaw surgery was actually stress that had built up over quite a long time. My jaw was longer and more protruding than other people’s, so I was conscious of it every time I took photos, and I especially tried desperately to keep my side profile from showing. When I looked in the mirror from the front, I didn’t really notice it, but whenever I saw my side profile in photos my friends took, my self-esteem dropped sharply. At some point, my jaw had become my biggest complex. After becoming an adult and getting a little more financially comfortable, I felt I shouldn’t put it off any longer, and that’s how I decided on double-jaw surgery. Around that time, I happened to see a post on a college student community called Everytime from someone saying their life had changed through double-jaw surgery. I related to it so much that I sent them a DM myself and asked various things, and they said the place where they had surgery was an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic, and that they had it done by Director Shin Hee-jin. They also showed me actual before-and-after photos, and they had become really pretty, so I thought I could trust this hospital and leave it to them lol I booked a consultation, and during the consultation they explained everything so kindly and thoroughly that I scheduled the surgery date right away. <After surgery ~ 1 week> Even before such a major surgery as double-jaw surgery, I actually wasn’t that scared. If anything, the excitement that I could finally resolve my complex was bigger, I guess? But when I entered the operating room and it was right before anesthesia, reality suddenly hit me and I got a little scared lol I was thinking, I’m really getting double-jaw surgery...? Still, when I opened my eyes, the surgery was already over, and Director Shin Hee-jin reassured me that the surgery went well, so I quickly felt at ease. On the first day, breathing was so hard that I almost regretted it a little, but I kept waking up every hour to breathe and things gradually got better. About a week after discharge, breathing became much easier, and since I could shower by myself, from then on I actually felt amazed and happy because the surgery seemed to have gone so well lol Even though swelling was at its peak, I looked in the mirror and went, “Oh..?” in admiration. My parents were also surprised, saying, “Is this really our son?” <Week 2 ~ Week 3> Compared with the very beginning, it was definitely more bearable, but this time the hunger was really intense lol Living on New Care drinks and blended porridge made me fully understand why the director had told me to eat lots of delicious food before double-jaw surgery. The pain of wanting to eat but not being able to was truly beyond imagination. My weight quickly dropped by 5–6 kg compared with before surgery. As I had my stitches removed, I gradually got used to eating, and since daily life became possible, it was a period when I could live with a calmer mind. I really liked that I could go outside as long as I wore a mask, and as the swelling slowly went down, it was fun to see my face changing little by little every time I looked in the mirror lol <1 month> The time when I could finally chew! I was so happy that I could eat things like ramen and rice. Of course, hard foods were still difficult, and I could only eat things soft enough to be crushed when pressed with my hand. Still, I was truly grateful just to have the joy of eating back. I also restarted orthodontic treatment, and around a month and a half in, I no longer had to wear the wafer, so daily life definitely became much more comfortable. A lot of the swelling had gone down, so I could go out without a mask, and I slowly started taking photos too. In the past, if someone pointed a camera at me, I would have covered my face, but these days I often look in the mirror and enjoy taking photos lol <2 months> After another month passed, almost all the swelling had gone down, and there were many more foods I could eat. I could chew foods that were a little less chewy than rice cakes well enough, so I sometimes ate out too lol Because of that, the weight I had lost is gradually coming back. Now there is almost nothing inconvenient in daily life, and when people see my face and say, “You got really naturally prettier,” I gain even more confidence. Looking back now, once the initial period when breathing was hard passed, the rest seems to get better with time. After resolving my jaw, which had been my biggest complex, my self-esteem rose a lot, and I became more confident in front of people. The double-jaw surgery was done very cleanly and well, and thanks to Director Shin Hee-jin, who carefully looked after my recovery process, I was able to recover with peace of mind. If I may say this to those considering double-jaw surgery, I can confidently say I made a really good choice with this oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic! lol If you’re only debating it, I hope you at least get a consultation.
