For a long time, because of my malocclusion, I couldn’t bite through food properly, and my pronunciation was unclear, so I had a lot of discomfort whenever I had conversations. Especially when speaking in front of people, it was stressful that my pronunciation kept getting tangled, and as the fatigue from my temporomandibular joint gradually got worse, I ultimately decided to have double-jaw surgery and facial contouring surgery together. The hospital recommended by the dental clinic I had originally been going to was EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and after receiving an in-person consultation, I trusted their surgical system, which was even more systematic than I expected, and the explanation from the director in charge, so I decided to have it done there. The preoperative CT analysis and simulation process were thorough, and since it is a hospital specializing in double-jaw surgery + facial contouring, I could definitely feel that they had a lot of experience, which was good. Right after surgery, the swelling was severe and it was hard to breathe, but after 3-4 days, breathing gradually became more comfortable and the facial swelling started to go down little by little. However, my appetite came back, but there was almost nothing I could eat, so that was the hardest part. On day 6, there wasn’t a big change in the swelling, but the blood that had kept flowing inside my mouth stopped, and by then only a small amount was coming out through my nose. Breathing had also become much more comfortable. On day 7, my breathing was much more stable, so I tried increasing my light walk/exercise by about 20 minutes. There was almost no heat sensation, and almost no bleeding, so I definitely felt that I was recovering. From the one-month mark, besides porridge or soft tofu, I could chew soft foods to some extent, so it was much better. My stamina was also gradually recovering, and aside from swelling at the surgical sites, there was almost nothing uncomfortable during that period. At the two-month mark, the swelling was no longer going down noticeably, but the facial contour lines were gradually becoming more defined, so I was told that I looked clearly different when taking photos!! I also proceeded with orthodontic treatment, but there wasn’t any major discomfort~ At the three-month mark, I had a slightly sensitive feeling when chewing on the right cheek side, so I was careful when eating. Also, when I pressed my cheek, I did feel some pain, so the hospital kept checking it consistently. Now, after 4 months and currently at 5 months, the pain I had worried about has almost all disappeared, and the swelling has gone down naturally, so my face shape has become quite natural! Now every time I look in the mirror, I think I’m so glad I had the surgery haha. There is absolutely no disruption to daily life, and the postoperative orthodontic treatment is also in its final stage, so I’m scheduled to finish within this year with only the retainer remaining! What I want to say to those considering double-jaw surgery or facial contouring surgery is that if, like me, you were concerned about both functional reasons + appearance, I think having both surgeries together is something worth fully considering! Of course, recovery can naturally be difficult, but as time passes, I think you will definitely be able to be satisfied like me~ Director Shin Hee-jin of EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery! Thank you once again for helping me improve both aesthetically and functionally!!!!
