The following is about my direct experience as a patient, and I am posting this in the hope that it will help those considering surgery make an objective judgment. After the surgery, Director Yoo Kyung-han acted as if he was going to try to call an acquaintance of his who is also a board-certified plastic surgeon at another plastic surgery clinic, in front of me. Even though I, the patient, clearly expressed that I did not want him to do so, he rejected the patient’s refusal and tried to obtain my information through a phone call with another medical professional in front of me. I felt that this was an attempt that went against medical ethics and personal information protection principles, and as a patient I felt extremely uncomfortable and anxious. I question whether it is legitimate to try to share information with a third-party medical professional without the patient’s consent. Another point I would like to mention is regarding the surgical consent form. I received the surgical consent form after the surgery and after an argument with Director Yoo Kyung-han. When I checked it, it contained a statement saying that I had been told by the doctor before surgery about a change in the surgical method. However, in reality, contrary to this surgical consent form, I was never given any explanation about a change in the surgical method by Director Yoo Kyung-han or the consultant at any point before, during, or after the surgery. Also, before I received the surgical consent form, Director Yoo Kyung-han claimed that the comparison photos showed the same restoration surgical method. As can be seen in the comparison photos, despite clear differences in the surgical method, such as the location of the sutures, the incision lines, and the appearance of the flap being pulled upward, he clearly claimed it was “the same method.” But after I received the surgical consent form, he changed his words and said it was a “different method.” Also, before the surgery, the consultant said, “Director Yoo Kyung-han only does it with one method.” Director Yoo Kyung-han also said before surgery that he would use one specific method, and even after surgery but before I received the surgical consent form, he said, “I only operate with one method; this is the only one I know.” However, as stated above, differences in technique can be seen in the photos, and after I received the surgical consent form, he said it was a different method. The surgical consent form also includes the following contents. Clause allowing a change of operating surgeon Clause allowing a change in surgical method Clause allowing a change in anesthesia method (from local anesthesia to sedation anesthesia, etc.) Clause stating that the copyright of the photos belongs to Director Yoo Kyung-han Typos (“this consent formge,” etc.) At the time of writing the surgical consent form before surgery, it asks about matters related to anesthesia and the stage of conscious sedation. I am curious whether it is standard for these kinds of clauses to be included. The consultant and Director Yoo Kyung-han said that they had been using these clauses, along with the typos, as they were. If anyone has had surgery by Director Yoo Kyung-han at Geunal Plastic Surgery, or has a copy of the surgical consent form, I would be very grateful if you could help me through a private comment or message. Through this post, I would like to emphasize the patient’s right to know and the need for prior information sharing, rather than criticize Geunal Plastic Surgery Clinic.
