Sharing my experience after surgery at Liting Plastic Surgery Clinic I underwent a facelift at Liting Plastic Surgery Clinic on April 8, 2024, after two long consultations, with the goal of improving my nasolabial folds and deep cheek area. During the consultation, Consultant A emphasized, **“All of Liting’s medical staff are experts who have done only lifting procedures at Liting Plastic Surgery Clinic for more than 10 years,”** and explained that a facelift was absolutely necessary to improve my nasolabial folds and deep cheek area. The explanation that other hospitals combine various procedures, while Liting specializes only in lifting, was the main reason I decided to have the surgery. However, after the surgery, a deep hollowing in the form of Indian bands appeared in the center of my face, where it had not existed before. There was no improvement in my nasolabial folds or deep cheek area, and instead I could not smile properly, my facial shape became distorted, and I looked more than 10 years older. Even now, my facial sensation remains dull, and I continue to feel as if tape has been stuck onto my face. Since I live overseas, I began contacting the hospital through KakaoTalk from 6 months after the surgery. At that time, I sent about 20 before-and-after photos and raised the issue, but Consultant A said, “This result occurred because you did not undergo the deep cheek liposuction that the doctor recommended immediately before surgery,” and told me to visit the clinic and receive another procedure. However, many specialists said that the occurrence of Indian bands is unrelated to whether liposuction was performed, and I already felt that the Indian bands were a bigger problem than the deep cheek area, so I stated that I wanted compensation for damages. After that, communication with the hospital continued to be difficult as the person in charge changed from Consultant B to Consultant C. I requested the consultation notes and proof of the doctor’s work experience, but the hospital replied that they do not write consultation notes and that they could not provide the employment certificate because it was personal information. Later, when I visited the hospital and consulted with Consultant C, I could not even receive a consistent answer as to whether the surgery I had received was a “mini lifting” or “L facelift.” The consultants mentioned different surgery names, but even when I asked what materials they were basing their answers on, I could not receive a clear answer. While visiting Korea, I went to the hospital and received some documents, including medical records and a surgery confirmation certificate, but I was confused because some documents had no issue date or were written under the name of the operating surgeon who had already left the hospital. Later, during a consultation with the representative director, I asked why the Indian bands had occurred, but instead of explaining the reason, the director only repeatedly suggested resolving it with filler. Also, regarding the doctors’ work experience, I only received the answer, “Even though I am the representative director, I don’t know exactly, so ask the consultant.” In order to hear objective opinions about the surgical result, I consulted with 5 lifting specialists with an average of more than 20 years of experience. All of them expressed concern about my current condition and gave opinions such as, “The doctor who performed the surgery does not appear to be a lifting specialist,” “It seems difficult to restore it to the original firm state,” and “This is not typical.” Also, as a result of meeting and consulting directly with the doctor who performed the surgery, that doctor stated that they did not have 10 years of experience in lifting, and that the hospital itself had not been established for 10 years. I confirmed that the explanation emphasized during the consultation was different from the facts. When I visited the hospital for the second time, some documents were newly issued with the hospital stamp, but they did not give me the surgical consent form or original photos, saying they would send them by email. A week later, I received documents from the hospital, and some of them contained signatures I had not written, while the photos they sent were confirmed to be edited files rather than originals. When I asked the hospital about this, even though I had actually filed a criminal complaint against Consultant A, not against the hospital itself, and even though what I was requesting were materials related to a civil lawsuit or criminal lawsuit against the hospital, they avoided answering by saying, “We cannot answer because this is related to the current criminal complaint case.” In this way, when they become uncomfortable, they avoid responding. If the hospital had responded from the beginning with an attitude like, “You must be upset; please come in and let’s look at it together,” I would not have escalated the issue this far. I think the ongoing lack of response and the repeated avoidance of responsibility by saying, “It happened because you did not have liposuction,” actually made the conflict worse. Recently, I was able to contact a consultant who had experience working at Liting and heard their account. I received testimony that consultation records do in fact exist, and that the “mini lifting” and “L facelift” mentioned during consultations are completely different surgeries.
