As soon as my surgery date was set, I quit smoking all at once, and I never drank or smoked before or after surgery, but then complications happened... It is so hard... Even though I ended up having two revision surgeries after my first surgery, leaving scars on my nose and scars on my ear and body, my precious autologous costal cartilage and ear cartilage materials were simply discarded. The revision surgery fee, which jumps to more than double, is hard to bear. Even after removal surgery, I don't know whether I can return to my original nose, and it seems really hard to have to live with the pressure and fear of not knowing when contracture or deformity may occur. On May 24, after my first surgery, people around me said their noses did not hurt at all and only complained of discomfort because of the nasal packing, but my nose hurt so much and kept throbbing, so my head hurt along with it. I just endured it alone, thinking this must be normal because I had surgery. I woke up every 30 minutes to 1 hour and barely slept 4 hours a day. Since I was breathing through my mouth, I woke up because my mouth was dry, and I had to go to the bathroom often to moisten my throat, so I only slept 4 hours. Every day, after not sleeping, I watched the sun rise and stayed dazed during the day. I am going through this for the third time now... After removing the nasal packing on Monday, May 26, starting Tuesday, May 27, my body began to feel chilly, and in the end until May 30 I suffered for 5 straight days with a fever of 38°C, chills, headache, muscle pain, and flu-like body aches. It was hard to find information on YouTube or in online communities about fever after surgery. It was so hard and painful that I even thought maybe dying would be easier. I also thought a person really could go insane. I paid out of pocket and got an IV drip at an internal medicine clinic for the first time midway through, and endured the hard days. On Saturday, June 7, after my 12:30 appointment for stitch removal, I had plans to eat out with my family at 3 p.m., but open irrigation was suddenly scheduled for 4 p.m., so I canceled. The consultant guided me, and around 2 p.m., as soon as I arrived at the clinic, I said I had drunk water; she told me to start fasting from then and not even drink water, and I went into surgery like that. In the consultation with the director before going into surgery, I asked, What if another hematoma forms even after open irrigation? The director answered that because men recover better than women, that would absolutely not happen, it would definitely get better, and he emphasized that the probability was truly 0.1%, an extremely rare chance, so it would absolutely not happen. After the splint was removed on June 14, I thought the swelling and hematoma were all going down, but on June 17, the anterior mucous membrane inside my nose began to swell, accompanied by slight pain. On the 19th, it swelled enough to cover more than half of my nasal cavity, and I experienced extreme pain and difficulty breathing. Eventually, I visited the clinic. That day, the director did not know the clear cause of the complication, and he actually told me, "I really don't know about a case like this." My trust dropped a lot. In conclusion, he said I had to have nasal implant removal surgery. My world collapsed, and I truly even thought I wanted to die. In the end, I had my nose implants removed... When I visited on the 21st to have the nasal packing removed, he said it seemed the autologous costal cartilage had caused a foreign-body reaction, and all I got were vague answers, saying it was neither his fault nor the patient's fault. I am still recovering now, and I don't know whether I will be able to return to my original nose...
