This year marks my 6th year since getting rhinoplasty. Thankfully, I haven’t had any major side effects during that time. A bulbous nose had been a long-standing complex for me, so I don’t regret it, but there are some parts I feel a bit disappointed about. The biggest disappointment was that even if you “pursue a natural look,” it doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t look like you had plastic surgery. I just had the bulbous nasal tip tied, a support strut built with ear cartilage, and 1 mm of silicone used to support the raised strut. I thought barely 1 mm wouldn’t be noticeable, but people who can tell could all tell. It makes me wonder why I emphasized naturalness so much. If it was going to be noticeable anyway, I should have gone for something a bit more glamorous or with a stronger presence. Of course, it doesn’t look blatantly obvious like a chalk stick, but since the silicone goes in as a straight line, the line is very smooth, and overall it’s ambiguous: I wonder if it looks natural...? but then it feels like it doesn’t. Thankfully, serious side effects such as contracture haven’t happened yet, but in the end, I am considering revision surgery. For those pursuing a natural look, I hope you take this into account while doing your research. If you just keep in mind that the truly natural and pretty noses you sometimes come across while researching do not come out as easily as you might think, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
