<Before surgery><Before surgery><3 months after surgery><3 months after surgery><1 year after surgery>I had a protruding jaw, Class III malocclusion, and open bite since I was young. From the outside, it just looked like my chin stuck out a bit, but in reality, my front teeth didn’t touch, so it was hard to bite food off, and because my bite didn’t align, chewing was difficult tooㅠㅠ I have lots of memories of feeling embarrassed because I couldn’t eat when friends said, “Just one bite~.” I thought I didn’t have a severe appearance complex, but after starting pre-surgical orthodontic treatment, I looked for unfiltered photos of myself and there wasn’t a single one. I think I had believed that my face with filters was the real one. That was when I clearly realized my jaw was a complex for me. So before it got any later, I decided to change it! I first underwent pre-surgical orthodontic treatment for about a year and a half. That process was harder than I expected, and while my bite didn’t fit, eating was so difficult. My teeth didn’t touch at all, so there was no feeling of chewing..ㅠ I went to consultations at several hospitals and really read a lot of reviews, but in the end I chose WHY Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The director’s explanations felt trustworthy, and during the consultation, they addressed each thing I was anxious about, so I felt reassured. The staff were also so kind that even before surgery, I felt like I could trust them and leave it to them? Since it’s a major surgery, I wanted to decide carefully, and I thought it would be good to choose a hospital that could also take care of the aesthetic aspects if possible. I could also proceed with orthodontic treatment there. The day of surgery was really hectic, and the surgery itself ends in an instant. I don’t remember it either. But the real hell is after that... I wondered whether breathing had always been this hard, drinking water was so difficult, and I couldn’t sleep at nightㅠㅠ Those few days were hard. After 2 to 3 days, once I received nasal suction, I finally felt like I could somewhat live, and I never knew New Care could taste that good. I took walks diligently, steadily received swelling laser treatments, and recovered day by day. At that time, I couldn’t tell whether it was swelling or fat, and I had no sensation around my mouth either...ㅠㅠ I had everything: tightness in the jaw, abnormal lip movement, phlegm, runny nose, pain... At around 3 months, the jaw pain eased somewhat, swallowing became more comfortable, and lip movement gradually became more natural. Still, the swelling was severe, and when I looked in the mirror, my face felt unfamiliar. I think I started exercising consistently from then. From walking to swimming, cardio, and weight training, there really wasn’t any exercise I didn’t do. I’m surprised myself that a year has passed. Right after two-jaw surgery, I seriously regretted it, thinking, what glory was I trying to gain by doing this...ㅠㅠ But now I’m really, really satisfied. Almost all the swelling is gone, though there is still a little residual swelling, stiffness in the muscles below the mouth area, and reduced sensation! Still, speaking is much more natural, and I can take photos without filters now. My orthodontic treatment isn’t finished yet, so I do feel a little tired... But getting the bite stably aligned is the priority! I’ve continued exercising and lost some weight too, and people around me often tell me, “You really lost a lot of weight,” so I feel good. Actually, it’s the swelling that went down though.. Two-jaw surgery is a major surgery that changes not only appearance but also function. So recovery takes a long time, and I really regretted it a lot... but after that time passed, everything gradually became okay~! Don’t just think of it as unconditionally hard; if you endure day by day, exercise, take walks, and keep going to the hospital well, it really will get better! I’m still in orthodontic treatment too, and it’s not completely finished, but now I don’t regret having the surgery. For those considering two-jaw surgery, I hope you get through the difficult time well, like I did, and achieve beautiful resultsㅎㅎ Everyone, fighting!!
