On the last day of February, I had surgery at ㅅㅅㅇ for the front chin and square jaw (cortical osteotomy, masseter muscle reduction). I had always had a complex about my long chin since I was young, but I never dared to consider surgery that shaves down bone. These days, medical techniques have advanced, and seeing many people around me even getting two-jaw surgery, I finally found the courage in my mid-30s..! Before surgery, I had consultations at several places, but I didn’t prefer hospitals that were too large or places without many reviews. This place was a facial contouring specialty hospital, the director specializes in bone surgery, the location and facilities were good, and the staff were kind, so I chose it. Even after surgery, I have visited a few times, and my impression has not changed from the first visit; I’m satisfied in every way. The director is skilled, all the staff are kind, and the facilities are clean and nice! I’m from outside Seoul, so I have to go to Seoul every time, and the location is also very good because I can go there directly from Express Bus Terminal Station. It has now been 2 weeks since surgery, and especially in the mornings, I still tend to be swollen like Dooly. But maybe I’m swollen only by the amount reduced through surgery, because if I don’t say anything, people at work don’t know I had surgery. Close acquaintances say my chin definitely became shorter, so I look younger than before. I’ll briefly describe the recovery process after surgery. For convenience, I’ll write in a clipped casual style. [Before surgery / Day of surgery] Honestly, I decided on the surgery pretty suddenly, so I ended up getting it without properly preparing my mind, body, or supplies beforehand. Impulsive P... Even the day before and the day of surgery, I thought about canceling and was very nervous ㅠ Rather than pain or side effects, as a power N, I worried that maybe I wouldn’t wake up and my life would end like this.ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Across the whole surgery and recovery, the most painful moment by pain level was right before surgery when they inserted a thick IV? like a blood donation needle into my wrist ㅠㅠ As soon as I lay on the operating table, they immediately put in the line, placed the respirator, I took about 3 deep breaths, and then I remember nothing. [Immediately after surgery] The surgery took within 2 hours, and I think I woke up about 2 hours after surgery. The sides of my face were wrapped with bandages, I was on an oxygen respirator, and there was no pain. I slept for about another couple of hours like that. Until discharge the next day, there was almost no pain, and I had no throat pain, hunger, thirst, or nausea. They just kept telling me to breathe deeply because I had to get the anesthetic gas out, and I kept getting sleepy, so whenever I was about to fall asleep, my oxygen saturation dropped, the alarm rang, and I repeated deep breathing again. Wearing the respirator was uncomfortable, but I didn’t have to keep deep breathing, so it was easier, and I just kept sleeping with the respirator onㅋㅋㅋㅋ Around 6 p.m., I asked the nurse for my phone, reported that I was alive through KakaoTalk, took a few photos, looked at my phone a bit, then went back to sleep around 10 p.m. I woke up every 1-2 hours at dawn, but slept fairly well, and after being discharged at 8 a.m., I took an express bus back downㅋㅋㅋㅋ [Post-op Days 1-4] I had surgery on Friday, took annual leave until Tuesday, and had to go to work and on a business trip on Wednesday. I hoped to recover as much as possible before work, but looking back, I think it would be best to rest at least a week.ㅠㅠ Up to days 1-2, maybe because of painkillers or the pain-control injection? I had almost no pain, but around days 3-4 was actually the most uncomfortable. Especially the tightening around my lower front teeth and aching tooth pain were the worst. This did disappear within two or three days. Facial swelling was definitely worst around the 72-hour mark, and since I didn’t do cheekbones, people couldn’t tell if I wore a mask! Swelling that was obvious enough for anyone to recognize as surgery lasted until about post-op day 5, I think. As someone who thought a lot about different masks for going to work, like large, extra-large dental masks, and so on, I’ll say one thing... First, because the face is swollen, a large mask is generally right. So I bought an extra-large beak-shaped mask, and my face was already swollen, so the lower face looked extra-largeㅋㅋㅋㅋ Also, masks don’t cover the sides of the jaw as well as expected, so the swelling shows, and if the mask length is a bit short, it slightly presses the lower front chin, giving a strange stiff soreness ㅠㅠ The conclusion is, if you want to wear one very comfortably, use a dental mask (just a rectangular shape), and the shape I recommend is a beak-shaped mask that also covers a wider area up to the cheeks. [One week after surgery] A country mouse came up to Seoul for the one-week visit.. I had a tiny hope that they might say it had healed a lot and try removing the stitches early, but after a simple exam, I received a compression band, got care, and went back down ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Until one week, eating and the wounds inside the mouth were still uncomfortable, but like other reviews saying to endure just one week, with the swelling too, I think the feeling of, “Ah, now I can really live a bit,” started from around one week. From this point, except for eating, there was nothing that interfered with daily life. [Two weeks after surgery] It has just passed 2 weeks now, and there is still swelling, but at night the swelling goes down, so I can definitely feel that my lower face has become smaller! I’m still not really chewing food, and while before I only ate liquid foods, now I’m sort of mumbling food with my tongue and front teeth. (cut-up kalguksu, etc.) I lost about 4 kg? quite a lot, and honestly this is the part I like the mostㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ At the 2-week visit, I had a CT scan and saw my cut bone too;;; seeing the smaller bone made it feel more real, and it was scary yet fascinating that I had received this surgery. I hope time passes quickly so I reach the one- and two-month marks, can exercise, and the swelling goes down a lot.
