At first, I thought my face shape was pretty much oval, so I had zero interest in contouring surgery! But as my plump 20s passed and I entered my 30s, the fat in my cheeks thinned out, and once I got into my early 30s, my cheekbones started to stand out. You know how once something catches your eye, that’s all you keep seeing? I think I kept rubbing my cheekbones every time I looked in the mirror. For about three monthsㅠㅠ Rather than keep stressing, I figured I might as well at least get a consultation, so I searched a bunch of hospitals. But I ruled out the large hospitals because they just weren’t my style, and since I was trying to get plastic surgery after turning 30, I ended up carefully checking the chief surgeon’s background too. (I couldn’t help but look at their education too.) Among them, the place that stood out was the gold standard of contouring. Chief Director Oh Jeong-seok had apparently worked at large hospitals with flashy reviews?! You could say his career there wasn’t very long, but I thought he must have had the skill to go independent and open his own clinic. I also thought he’d have a good grasp of the latest trends, so I went straight in for a consultationㅋㅋ After the CT scan, he explained in detail what kind of surgery it was and kindly talked me through the direction I wanted and what could be improved with surgery. But why is it that when you go in for a procedure consultation, they tempt you with things you don’t even needㅋㅋ Still, Director Yoon really recommended only what was necessary and told me I didn’t have to do the things I didn’t need. The director and the manager didn’t push anything too hard, so I could protect my bank account, and instead it made me trust them more! The price was also fixed, so it was exactly what I had been told in advance, and there were no extra charges! And above all, not only was there a chief director, but there was also a separate anesthesiologist, and they were well prepared for emergencies, so I really felt reassured. (The anesthesiologist was also a Seoul National University graduate.) In the end, after the consultation, I worried about it for about a month and then set a surgery date. On the day of surgery, I went in expecting(?) to see how much it would hurt when the anesthesia wore off, but before the surgery the doctor explained the operation and recovery process in detail, and once I got ready and lay down, I think I fell asleep quickly. But.. the moment I woke up, I was in so much pain that I instantly came to my senses. There were reviews saying it “didn’t hurt,” but for me, it really hurt so much! I think this hurt more than an implant. It wasn’t just my cheekbones, my molars hurt so badly that I kept whining to the nursesㅋㅋ But they were so kind about asking the anesthesiologist whether I could use more painkillers, and I was grateful that they worried together with meㅠㅠ I wanted to wake up fully as fast as possible, so I kept taking deep breaths using Pilates breathingㅋㅋ Once I was fully awake, I had a post-op CT scan, heard the surgeon explain the results, and was discharged. I had my surgery right at the start of a holiday break, so traffic was heavy, but luckily there was a subway line where I could sit, so I rode alone for about 40 minutes and got home fine. But if you have to stand the whole time or take a long time to wake from anesthesia, I recommend a taxi or help from a guardian rather than public transportation. It’s really toughㅎㅎ As expected, the swelling was worst on days 3 to 4, and the bruising under my eyes started showing up from day 3ㅋㅋ My swelling wasn’t severe overall, so by around week 2 the swelling around my eyes was almost gone, and by week 3 a lot of the cheek swelling had gone down. But the swelling in the side cheekbone area is still there, so it doesn’t feel like my face shape has changed dramatically yet. Compared with my face before surgery, it feels like the lines have softened a bit? I also had my one-month follow-up, and the doctor said that when I look back at this face at the three-month mark, I’ll think it was still very swollen nowㅋㅋ Even now, the size of the bone I can feel with my hand is definitely different, and on the CT scan you can see that the bone position changed, so I’m hoping the residual swelling goes down quickly! I’ve seen “just endure it” a lot when people talk about contouring surgery, but I guess impatience is unavoidableㅋㅋ Since it’s only been one month now, in three months it should settle much better, right? Hang in there!!
