I had a big complex about my face shape since puberty. I was often told that my midface was long and that I had a protruding lower jaw, so I used to always cover my chin. Even just over 10 years ago, there was a strong perception that two-jaw surgery was dangerous, and in regional areas there were almost no hospitals where you could get the surgery.. So over the years I tried various methods such as genioplasty, cheekbone filler, and lip filler, but I felt that a fundamental solution was difficult. After such a long time passed, I finally decided to resolve the long-held wish I had kept in my heart haha. I chose EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery because it was mentioned the most when I searched, and there were plenty of before-and-after photos and reviews~ haha. In particular, Director Kim Jong-yoon had a neat impression unlike directors at other hospitals, and the everyday style shown on his personal Instagram looked stylish too, so I came to believe he would have excellent aesthetic sense for faces lol. I thought that kind of sense was important too haha. From the day of surgery, the recovery process was definitely not easy. Nasal congestion, dry mouth, headache, swelling, even pain from the wafer... My whole body was exhausted, and especially during the first few days after surgery, even moving my body was difficult. As time passed, it gradually got better, but breathing through my nose was still difficult, and the pain in my tongue and inside my mouth continued. After day 7 post-op, the swelling started to go down little by little, and while receiving outpatient care, I slowly adapted to daily life. In week 2, I had my stitches removed and had hopes about eating food, but there was still swelling inside my mouth, so it was still too much. From week 3, I got used to wearing the wafer and elastics, and daily life became possible. However, speaking was still the most uncomfortable thingㅜ Now that a month has passed, I think this is a period when recovery is becoming stable overall. Both cheeks are still swollen like a squirrel’s,. The swelling has not gone down as easily as I expected, but I was told I should account for swelling for up to 1 year, so I’m trying not to be impatient. Since I’m still wearing elastics with the wafer, my occlusion still doesn’t fit exactly, so I do worry that I may need orthodontic treatment, but anyway, this past month feels like it was the beginning of a big change in my life, and I’m really, really looking forward to what’s ahead!
