Sorry My nose has always looked a bit blunt, so I was hoping it could become a little slimmer and just the tip could lift slightly (without anyone noticing). The swelling still has a long way to go, but I’m pretty satisfied so far. It’s now been almost 4 days since surgery, so I’m jotting down a process diary. My nose - Bulbous nose (moderately thick skin + cartilage seems a bit thick) + Alar reduction 7 years ago + has a hump What I wanted was: if cartilage tying alone would have an effect, I’d do it. Consulted at 4 places total
1 ★★☆☆☆ They said my cartilage was small and my skin was thick, so they suggested open columella incision + cartilage repositioning? + placing a columellar strut and filling it with cartilage from inside the nose. Since it was open surgery, I just didn’t do it and left.
2 ★★★☆☆ They said cartilage tying is basically included in rhinoplasty, so if I did rhinoplasty with autologous cartilage, cartilage tying would be free. This place was also open surgery, so passed.
3 ★★★☆☆ It’s a hospital famous for alar reduction and had many reviews saying they were kind, so I went. It was just okay.. okay. They said if I wanted bulbous nose correction + cartilage tying, I could do it, but while showing the design with cotton swabs, they implied the effect would be minimal unless I also did autologous cartilage and some hump osteotomy. It wasn’t exactly pressure, but I didn’t hear what I wanted to hear. Well, I think people may feel differently. The price was more expensive than expected.
4 ★★★★★ A hospital famous for alar reduction and cartilage tying. My important needs: straightforward, kind, and I really felt the hospital suited me well. They said cartilage tying + slight hump trimming (recommended + choice is up to me) seemed likely to be effective. Both the consultant and doctor are rappers. They talk fast, but their diction is good so I could hear everything. They’re kind.
In the end, at the 4th hospital I did only c.a.r.t.i.l.a.g.e. t.y.i.n.g. [Should I also trim the hump? I thought about it, but they said if I wanted to look masculine, it might be better to keep it. They said they would definitely recommend it for women, but they don’t necessarily recommend it for men. I’m grateful to the consultant for giving an honest, straightforward opinion.]
I’m currently on day 4, and I’ll know better once the swelling goes down more, but it seems to have turned out naturally and subtly.
