It’s been 6 days since I removed the support strut on the nasal tip/septal side. The surgical methods were hump reduction, osteotomy, nasal tip septal work, and a septal-side support strut (artificial cartilage). Because the septal support strut was artificial cartilage, I thought it was Medpor, but it was something else. I don’t remember what it was.
Before surgery, I filled out all the consent forms, and they said “collapse” doesn’t mean functional collapse, but that the nose could droop again like before, and that contracture differs by person so they couldn’t give a definite answer. But I hated the stiffness so much that I had it completely removed. Still, after looking at my nose, they said contracture might not happen. My original nose had a hump, a drooping nasal tip, and a descended columella.
The surgery time seemed to take about an hour or a little more, and I ate porridge in the hospital room, took medicine, and went straight home.
Honestly, right now I don’t feel anything. Some people said removal hurts more, is harder, and that removing the septal support strut causes certain things, but I still made up my mind and said let’s remove everything, so I did it. The swelling was like temporary swelling on the second day after I ate something and slept, but now I should say there is almost no swelling.. There was no bruising, no pain, and because they made an incision, just a bit of tingling from that? Even that only lasted 2 or 3 days, and now I’m fine. Some people said their nasal tip lifted after removal, but I don’t have that either, and I had an open approach, but the incision scar isn’t really visible. By scar, I mean when I read reviews from people within almost one week after removal, many had scabs and severe-looking incision or suture shapes, but I don’t have that. On the first day after surgery, my nose was packed with cotton, but since I live far away, I heard the care instructions and removed the cotton at home the next day. But there was almost no bleeding. Even after removing the cotton, at the incision site, just around the suture knot, there was a little pooled blood for a few hours, then no more bleeding..
Honestly, right now I don’t feel anything, so I think the doctor is really skilled and I’m really lucky too. But I’m more scared that after staying like this, something bad like contracture might come in a few weeks or months. Still, since I trusted the doctor and did it, I think that’s why I have this result right now.
Next Tuesday I’m going to have the stitches removed and the tape on my nose taken off, and I’m worried in my own way too.
Also, I haven’t touched my nasal tip yet. I’m curious, but I’ll know next week anyway, and even if it’s still stiff, scar tissue is something that fills in as part of the process, so I’m trying not to worry too much. They say what’s good is good, and I think worrying more may actually be worse.
I removed it at the same hospital where I had surgery, and it was removed after almost 1 year and 6 months. At 6 months after surgery, I went for a removal consultation, but since I also had surgery for a deviated septum, they said if the added support was removed, the septum could deviate again, so we should do it after 1 year. I kept waiting, and now I finally did it.
