As 1 year passed, there were really many changes! When I first decided on double-jaw surgery, I was really nervous and had a lot of worries. I had malocclusion since I was young, and when I was told it couldn’t be resolved with orthodontic treatment, I considered double-jaw surgery, and eventually decided to go ahead with the surgery. While consulting at several hospitals, meeting Director Shin Hee-jin at Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was the decisive reason. The director carefully looked at my photos and temporomandibular joint images and explained everything in detail, so I felt trust, and I really trusted the best treatment plan she made for my situation. Right after surgery, the swelling was severe and my face felt unfamiliar, but as time passed, I could feel myself recovering one step at a time. At 1 month, the foods I could chew gradually increased, and I felt that recovery was getting faster. My face also gradually became more natural, and as the swelling went down, people around me said I had changed a lot! At 2 months, I had recovered to the point where there was almost no inconvenience in daily life, and at 3 months, I was able to eat freely. By then, almost all the swelling had gone down, and the feeling was becoming more and more natural. At 4 months, it became so natural that I completely forgot I had double-jaw surgery, and as orthodontic treatment ended, I could eat with no problems at all. At 5 months, I started learning swimming, and I felt good because it seemed to help reduce swelling. At 6 months, the hospital said the bones had fully fused, so I was really relieved! At 7 months, almost all the swelling had gone down, and from then on I worked hard at exercising to get rid of the swelling. At 8 months, my orthodontic appliance was removed, and I could eat hard foods without any problem! However, when I neglected exercise a little, slight residual swelling remained, but I still kept trying to manage it. At 9 months, while adapting to the retainer, I felt everything becoming more natural, and at 10 months, people around me told me I had improved even more, so I felt really good! At 11 months, I was completely used to the retainer, and I heard a lot that my face had become really natural. Now that 12 months have passed, I’m comfortable and satisfied to the point that I forget I even had double-jaw surgery! I had many worries after surgery, but now I’m sure it was a really good decision. If you’re considering it, I really recommend getting a consultation with Director Shin Hee-jin at Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery!
