I had cheekbone and jaw facial contouring surgery at that hospital that runs a huge amount of advertising, ㅇㅇㄷ Hospital, around exactly this time 6 years ago. I usually had protruding lateral cheekbones, which made my face look somewhat skull-like, and I had a slightly protruding-jaw look with a developed lower face, so my face looked heavy. I had the surgery to resolve that complex. At the time, Chung-Ang University Hospital was also famous for facial bone surgery, and there were many other plastic surgery clinics too, but because I focused on safety issues such as whether an anesthesiologist was on-site and how safety management was handled, I chose ㅇㅇㄷ Hospital because it was large enough to be hospital-level and had anesthesiologists on-site, so I thought it was safe. At the time, I paid about 12 million won for the surgery. I think they were kind both before and after the surgery. I was discharged the day right after surgery, and after that I visited about 3 times? including to have the stitches removed. During the few postoperative visits, I saw the face of Director Park Sang-hoon, who performed the surgery, exactly once, and I don't think a doctor removed the stitches either.
From after the surgery, I had a tingling, slightly numb, and pulling sensation in the area of the left infraorbital nerve (from under my left eye to my cheek and upper lip). When it had not been long since the surgery, I thought it was just normal, but after a year passed and it was still the same, since I live outside Seoul I couldn't go in person and had an online consultation. They answered that it can take some time, and that if it kept staying the same I should visit once. Honestly, it was tingling, but it wasn't that I had no sensation at all or that it was severely numb, and it wasn't enough to interfere with daily life, so I lived thinking it would get better with time.
But even now, 6 years later, there has been no change at all and it is exactly the same, so I contacted the Korea Consumer Agency. They said that if I go to a university hospital, get examined, obtain and submit a medical certificate diagnosing that there is a problem, they will mediate with the hospital, so I plan to go to a university hospital soon.
And not only the tingling sensation, but after the cheekbone surgery both sides were asymmetrical and the reduction effect was minimal, and I had jaw surgery with a T-osteotomy. My jaw did become slightly slimmer, but the jaw length itself stayed the same, so the heavy-looking lower face remained. As time passed, maybe a gap formed where the bone was cut, because when I touch it, it feels bumpy and protruding, and the square jaw area was resected too much, so it felt like an over-resected, pointed jaw. So I considered revision surgery and went to another dental hospital to get a CT scan.
As expected, one cheekbone was barely reduced, the square jaw had been resected too much, the end of the jaw osteotomy site was slightly sunken, so it was inevitably palpable, and I was told that the fixation pin from the cheekbone surgery was placed too close to the infraorbital nerve foramen. They said there is no guarantee that removing this pin would bring the nerve back, and that it probably will not come back for the rest of my life. That is what I heard.
Before that, when I searched online, ㅇㅇㄷ Hospital was almost blacklisted. I wonder why I didn't know that back then, and I do regret it, but the time has already passed and there is nothing I can do about that. I will soon go to a university hospital and receive a medical certificate, and if I submit it to the Korea Consumer Agency, I don't know whether I can receive even a little compensation, but I am going to try for now.
For those considering surgery, I really hope you look carefully not only into the safety of the surgery you want, but also whether the style the doctor pursues matches the style you want, how postoperative care is handled, and how they respond when side effects occur. I also hope you study a lot medically about the surgery you want to have. If you do, of course many questions are bound to come up, and you need to meet a doctor who explains those points in detail and clearly. Only when you yourself have no questions can you trust the doctor and be satisfied with the surgical result, so please make sure to search carefully and study a lot!!
