I had it removed today. Overall, it was an L-shaped implant, with silicone in the nose bridge and Gore-Tex in the columella. The nasal tip had AlloDerm.. It had been 4 to 5 years.
The clinic I had originally gone to didn’t even have the director who performed my surgery anymore, and I kept feeling uneasy, so I had the removal done at another clinic.
I was so anxious, but they carefully went through each of the specific things I was worried about and explained them to me. Even on the day of surgery, they asked what I was most anxious about and explained everything.
Here is the list of what I was most worried about. I think people getting removals are probably worried about similar things, so I’ve organized it here.
1. Unevenness of the nose bridge when removing silicone This was also something I was extremely worried about.. The doctor explained that you have to open the periosteum and place the silicone there for it not to move. But in order to lift the periosteum, the bone has to be shaved slightly, and people spread strange rumors saying that this means the bone is being filed down.
2. Should AlloDerm be removed? AlloDerm is dermis from a cadaver.. I also felt very uneasy about it and wanted it completely removed, but I was told that once AlloDerm is absorbed into the dermis, it becomes like my own skin. AlloDerm-related inflammation happens early, and if it didn’t happen then, that part has become part of my skin. Removal is possible, but if the line would just drop straight from the nose bridge to the tip, they said there was no need to remove the AlloDerm from the tip and create a cliff-like drop. I decided to remove only the silicone and Gore-Tex, and if the tip alone became sharp, then I would remove it.
3. Skin indentation and the nose collapsing There doesn’t seem to be any reason for the same problem to happen...?
First, I had the removal under sleep anesthesia, and both the silicone and Gore-Tex were removed neatly through a closed approach. They showed me everything they removed, including the implants and the capsule, so I checked it myself. It was pretty gruesome.. Also, the doctor said the nasal bone looked clean and there was no collapse, so I think it will probably return almost to my original nose. I didn’t remove the AlloDerm. I do regret not doing it, but they said it had fully adhered and turned into my skin.. Because they released the Gore-Tex adhesion on one side, blood is pouring out ㅜㅜ My skin feels soft, so it almost feels like it isn’t my own skin..... Anyway, I’ll post another review after I take off the tape!
