Two weeks ago, I had surgery for a deviated septum and revision rhinoplasty at a university hospital..
I had nose surgery a long time ago, and ever since the surgery my septum was so crooked that I could feel it with my hand. Externally, the columella and nasal bridge were crooked too, and my nasal obstruction was severe. While looking into it, I heard that a professor at a university hospital was famous, so I went there. Since it was a university hospital, I trusted that of course they would be better than a general hospital. When I had the consultation while they looked at my CT scan, the professor said I did not have allergies or sinusitis, so the surgical result would be good, and that the silicone from my previous surgery was digging into my nasal bone, so it would be better to do it together. So I decided to have the surgeries together and proceeded. Since it was revision surgery, I had it done with autologous costal cartilage.
I had talked with the professor about the goals being correction of the deviated septum, the nasal bridge, the crooked nostrils, and the lifted nasal bridge. Since the silicone was digging into the nasal bone, he said that during surgery, depending on the situation, it might be difficult to correct the upturned nose or make other corrections. He also said it would not get much higher. Even when I saw him for the last time before surgery. I liked the height of my nose and did not want my nose to be higherㅜ It was already lifted. After the surgery, which took more than 3 hours, during rounds the professor said because the silicone had dug in and made a hole and was pressing on the nasal mucous membrane, the surgery was difficult, there was inflammation so he removed everything, and because the condition of my nose was not good, he could not correct the lifted nasal tip..
Up to this point, even though it hurt, I was the happiest. My columella had been crooked, but that had been corrected, and I was very grateful that he completed such a difficult surgery well.
I was hospitalized for 2 nights and 3 days and then discharged, but because there were no hospital rooms available, I stayed in a two-person room, so the hospital bill came out close to 8 million won. I was shocked, but I thought maybe that is how it is at a university hospital, and up to this point it was still okayㅜㅜ
On day 5, they removed the splint and took out the silicone support, and it hurt so much that I cried and wailed. This pain is truly beyond imaginationㅜ
After removing the splint, because of the swelling they taped my nose, and in that state I looked in the mirror for the first time, and my nose was so hugeㅜ That was my first moment of despair, but I thought maybe it was because it was still swollen. At that time, the professor had gone to a conference, so another professor did it.
Then one week later, I saw the professor for the first time and asked how it looked. He handed me a mirror and said he liked it, and asked what I did not like. So I said my nose was too big, and he said there was still swelling, so let us watch it a bit more. Until then, I trusted the professor and went home.
He told me to come back in 3 days, so I went 3 days later, and he said then too that I was recovering well, and for the height, let us watch it a little more.
After all the taping was removed and I looked at my face, even though a lot of swelling had gone down, it was still too highㅜㅜ
As expected, since he is an ENT professor, I am satisfied with the deviated septum surgery~~ Maybe because my nose became higher, even though my nose was blocked, air coming in felt like a whole new worldㅎ As for breathing, the amount I breathe in through one nostril now feels the same as what I used to breathe in through both nostrilsㅎ One nostril still gets blocked occasionally, but it is open more often, so I am fairly satisfied.
But the nose being so high is truly making me so discouraged that I hate looking in the mirror and meeting peopleㅜㅜ And I do not know whether the costal cartilage is in the columella or the nasal bridge or where, but the skin on my face feels not just pulled, but like it is sagging, and since yesterday my eyes have not been opening wellㅜ When I lie straight, my nose feels so heavy that I keep lying on my side, and all my nerves are focused on the pulling in my nose, so daily life is very difficultㅜㅠ
It was a surgery I barely managed to do after taking only 2 weeks of vacation, and now I am worried whether I need early removalㅜㅜ Right now my mind is leaning toward removing the costal cartilage, but I am very worried about whether I need another surgery within 3 weeks and whether I have to pay again for the removal surgery. I never asked for it to be made higher, and he said it would not be raised much, so I am having such a hard time emotionally wondering how he made it this high.
If there are people who have had removal or revision surgery, please share some informationㅜㅜ Except for the deviated septum surgery, I want everything removedㅜ I am also curious whether I have to pay again when the surgery was done wrong..
And I really do not recommend costal cartilageㅜㅜ My nose feels so pulled and heavy. And if possible, please do not get nose surgery carelesslyㅜ
I sincerely hope the damage ends with meㅜ
