In the summer of 2012, I had surgery after hearing that they would do silicone on the nasal bridge + septal cartilage for the nasal tip. I had only gone for a consultation about alar reduction, but the consultant said that if I only did the nasal tip and not the bridge, most people came back for another surgery, so although I didn’t want to do the bridge, (at that time, a friend of mine had also only done the nasal tip and then went back to do the bridge too) in the end, I ended up doing the whole nose.
I didn’t like it even after the surgery. I asked them to make it as low and natural as possible, but it was too high for my face ㅜ I trusted the older women around me who had experience and said it would gradually come down over time, so I waited, and it did get lower over time, but the implant line started showing through way too clearly......
Around the 4-year mark, I started feeling like something was off, and I didn’t want to be stressed anymore, so I tried an online consultation at ㄱㅇㅅ (nasal bridge removal + sedation anesthesia was around 1.8 million won, and this was when I thought it was silicone, so they said the price would go up if it was Gore-Tex) and I also booked a consultation at the hospital where I had the surgery.
When I went to the hospital, they said the nasal bridge was not silicone but Gore-Tex;; The consultant who advised me 5 years ago had already quit, so I couldn’t hold anyone responsible, and the director who operated on me looked at all the photos taken right after surgery, 4 months later, and on the consultation day (they took progress photos as soon as I arrived), then touched my nose and said removal would be best. He said there didn’t seem to be inflammation, but they would only know after surgery, so I booked it right away for one week later ㅜ
The director reassured me very kindly, saying that if I removed it, my impression would become softer than now, and that just because it was Gore-Tex didn’t mean it couldn’t be removed ㅜ I also asked the follow-up care manager a lot about whether this hospital does many removal surgeries; (it’s a large hospital that people would recognize just by name, but I was so nervous ㅜ) During the consultation, they said they would use an open approach, leave the nasal tip, and remove only the Gore-Tex, but after the actual surgery, they removed it through a closed approach. The surgery was done under sedation anesthesia. I went into surgery around 2:30, and when I woke up I think it was around 4. A week later, after removing the splint, at first my nasal bridge was thick like Avatar, so it felt awkward, but from 2 weeks onward, the swelling went down more and I’ve been satisfied!
As the director said, I think it was good that I left the nasal tip! It is my own cartilage too, and originally I only wanted alar reduction and the nasal tip, so removing only the Gore-Tex actually seems to have given me the shape I originally wanted. After removal, the nasal bridge definitely got lower, but people around me don’t even know I had it removed;;
And as expected, for plastic surgery, I think aftercare is better at large hospitals. Even though 5 years had passed, they consulted me so kindly, and I was touched that they did it with a closed approach so no scar would be left. When I searched online here and there, it said Gore-Tex is hard to remove through a closed approach, so I was really scared and worried it would leave a markㅜ Because it was closed, there is no surgical scar at all. It has only been 3 weeks, so I still need to watch the progress more, but the current shape is naturally pretty.
Anyway, for those worried about Gore-Tex removal, after actually removing it, I feel more at ease and better than before removal! Don’t worry too much, and definitely get a consultation at the hospital where you had the surgery too!
And for those currently considering nose surgery... I don’t know about other things, but when it comes to putting in implants like silicone, Gore-Tex, or Silitex, I really want to stop you ㅜ I think it’s really good for only about 3 years. Even those 3 years aren’t particularly amazing. You can’t even touch your nose freely;; I hope you can hold back while looking at celebrities who are naturally pretty even with round or low noses... My younger sister also wanted to get her nose done, but after seeing me remove mine, she stopped saying she wanted it ㅋ Then I hope everyone preparing for removal can return to their natural own nose!
