Review of Consultations at 5 Clinics in Seomyeon, Busan for Functional Rhinoplasty

The reason I decided to have surgery was that, more than cosmetic concerns, my rhinitis was so severe that I couldn’t sleep at night. So while getting rhinitis surgery, I also wanted to improve my slight hump and drooping nasal tip, so I looked into it! The line I wanted was a straight-to-slightly-curved profile, a rounded nasal tip, and the columella showing slightly, for an elegant natural nose. Since I live in Busan, I mainly looked around Seomyeon, Busan, and researched 8 places online and visited 5 for consultations. The three places I ruled out during online research were ㅂㅇㅅㅅ(Hadan) - I made a reservation because the doctor is an otolaryngology specialist, so I thought they would be good at rhinitis surgery. The whole clinic felt quite busy and chaotic, like a marketㅠ I visited after making a reservation, but they said I didn’t have one and the guidance was poor, so I ruled them out right away. ㅁㅇ - There is a director famous for noses, and the style seemed safety-oriented + natural, so I was going to go for a consultation, but they said functional rhinoplasty is not covered by indemnity insurance, so I passed. ㄷㅁ - The director seemed to pursue facial harmony, and the consultation looked detailed and decent, but they also said functional rhinoplasty is not covered by indemnity insurance, so I passed. Then I booked and visited 5 places for in-person consultations! I heard it’s not good to get CT scans multiple times in one day, so I went to one clinic per day whenever I had time over two weeksㅜㅠ ㅇㅇㅇㅋ - I visited because it is a clinic specializing in eyes and noses, has a long history, and is said to prioritize safety. The staff were very kind, which was nice, but the director’s consultation was the shortest, about 3 minutes?ㅠ Also, the director said he would preserve the hump, but the consultant said that if the hump was preserved, the nose would be too high, so it wouldn’t work. Since the two of them said different things, I felt unsure, and it seemed like the surgery would be done according to the director’s preferred aesthetic without giving me time to explain the nose I wanted. The reviews themselves weren’t bad, but I felt they wouldn’t reflect my needs, so I put it on hold. ㅇㅇㄴㅇ - The facilities were really nice, almost like a cafe, and the consultant noticed and checked even very detailed points. It was good that she explained in detail which indemnity insurance company I had and about how much I could get reimbursed. The director’s consultation was just okay, but even though my nose isn’t a difficult case, they said the surgery would take 4 hours, which put me off. I don’t have a bulbous nose, but they said I needed bulbous nose correction and columella correction too, adding all kinds of options, so it was 2 million won more expensive than other places. They said I could get that back through indemnity insurance. When I asked other people with similar noses by direct message, their prices weren’t around this much either. Since I have first-generation indemnity insurance and a high chance of reimbursement, it felt like they quoted a high price, so I didn’t like that. Also, the pressure to book the same day was too much. I was pushed into putting down a deposit, and they kept contacting me by text too, so it felt burdensome. ㄴㅇ - I visited because the review results showed a straight-to-slightly-curved line, a rounded nasal tip, and a nicely shaped columella. I went for a consultation because they said functional rhinoplasty was possible, but they said they only handle the nasal valveㅠ They said getting nose surgery because of rhinitis doesn’t work for severe seasonal rhinitis, and nasal valve surgery is only possible for people who struggle with nasal obstruction all year round. I had read that indemnity insurance claims for nasal valve surgery are harder, so I’m not sure why this place is like thatㅜ They said functional rhinoplasty + cosmetic rhinoplasty is possible without an indemnity insurance claim. ㅂㄷ - This is a clinic opened by a director who used to be at New Line. The reviews were all good, and I visited because I heard the director personally handles the consultation and follow-up progress checks. I could see that the director was trying to operate according to facial atmosphere and axis, and they explained in detail while drawing pictures, so I felt trust. But in the review photos, unlike my preferred aesthetic, many results had a columella that looked cut off, so I put it on hold. ㅈㅇㅇ - This is also a clinic opened by a director who used to be at New Line, and I visited because I heard they specialize in noses and many people go there for revision surgery too. Maybe because it was peak season, it took 2 weeks to get a consultationㅠ The reviews had a lot of dramatic noses, so honestly it didn’t match my preferred aesthetic, but I heard you can ask for a natural look, so I went for a consultation. This was the longest consultation, and it was nice that the director personally showed me with a 3D program what it would look like after surgery. He said that if we aligned it with my facial axis, osteotomy might not be necessary, and if my septal cartilage was deviated or small, surgery could be done with donated costal cartilage, or with autologous costal cartilage if I wanted. They also said 2 post-op skin care sessions are included as a service. While waiting for the surgery date after putting down a deposit, I kept looking at reviews, and no matter how I looked at them, there were many Pinocchio-like or pointed nose results that didn’t match my preferred aesthetic, so I wasn’t confident and canceled the deposit...ㅠ Conclusion: I was absolutely planning to do it in Busan so follow-up visits would be easy...! But now I’m going to Seoul for consultations to find a director with good aesthetic sense that matches my preferred lookㅎ Design matters too, but it really seems like most Busan plastic surgery clinics use septal cartilage, except maybe ㅅㅍ or ㅈㅇㅇ. My septal cartilage is deviated, so I think it would be better not to use it, and I’m worried about what if they touch it unnecessarily and I end up needing revision surgery or having bigger functional problems. It seems like plastic surgery clinics in Seoul have a bit more freedom in choosing materials and handle them better, so I’m going to try going thereㅠㅠ When I researched both Seoul and Busan online, Busan definitely had far fewer reviews than Seoul.
