<Before surgery><Before surgery><After surgery><After surgery><After surgery><Before surgery> I had malocclusion since I was young, and as I grew up, I gradually developed a protruding lower jaw. When I found out that ordinary orthodontic treatment couldn’t treat it and that only double jaw surgery was the answer, I was troubled. Since it was a major surgery, I was scared, and the cost was not small either. But after entering my 30s, I thought I would regret it if I waited any longer, so I gathered courage and requested a consultation at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery also has a YouTube channel, so I could easily get the information I was curious about, and I trusted Director Lee Seok-jae, who has extensive experience. During the consultation, he kindly answered the things I was curious about, such as side effects and recovery period, and thanks to that, I was able to decide on the surgery date right away that day. <Day of surgery - Week 1> Double jaw surgery and 2 types of facial contouring (square jaw, chin) completed! This was the hardest period after surgery. I had to replace meals with a liquid diet, and to prevent blood from rushing to my face, I had to sleep sitting up. Even then, the pain became severe at night, so I couldn’t fall asleep easily. But I could definitely tell that the protruding lower jaw was gone. From this point, you need to walk steadily every day for the swelling to go down quickly. <Week 2 - Month 1 after surgery> From week 2, my body adapted, and I could manage daily life to some extent. Looking in the mirror, the protruding lower jaw was definitely gone, and my face looked slimmer too. I could sleep comfortably lying down, and I could eat various things like finely cut ramen and cake. Most of all, the swelling went down visibly fast. I think double jaw surgery is a fight against swelling, and because I kept going for walks, it seems to have gone down faster. Until 1 month, I had to keep a wafer in my mouth and couldn’t talk normally, so some inconvenience remained. <Month 1 - Month 3 after surgery> After one month, orthodontic treatment begins. I chose Invisalign and had orthodontic treatment while wearing clear aligners. The advantage of Invisalign is that it is transparent, so the braces are not very noticeable externally, and it hurts less than wire braces. The disadvantage is that while wearing the aligners, you can only drink water, so it can be hard to have snacks, coffee, juice, and the like. At month 1, most of the swelling is gone, and only residual swelling remains. But this residual swelling takes quite a long time to go away. Still, it becomes possible to go outside without wearing a mask. Meals still have to be mainly soft foods, but compared with the early postoperative period, being able to eat different things makes me incredibly happy. From this period, people around me started saying I had become better-looking. Most reactions were that my face had gotten smaller, slimmer, and so on, and it was fascinating to hear that even though all the swelling had not gone down. <Month 6 after surgery> The time when I had surgery in midsummer has somehow become midwinter. Now I feel that sensation around my mouth has almost completely returned. The residual swelling has gone down so much that I’m not sure if there is any more left to go down. I have no problem eating to the point that I can go to a barbecue restaurant with friends and eat. Still, just in case, I’m continuing to avoid hard foods. These days, everyone I meet says I’ve lost a lot of weight. My body weight is the same, but because my face became smaller and slimmer, everyone thinks I lost weight. If I were to rate my satisfaction, I am currently extremely satisfied. Comparing before and after surgery, the only thing that changed is that my protruding lower jaw disappeared. I have no other side effects or sensory abnormalities. If someone asked whether I would turn back time and have double jaw surgery again, I would answer, of course. If you endure the brief difficult period right after surgery, you can live the rest of your life as a changed version of yourself, so is there any reason not to do it?
