Day 5 Review After Facial Contouring Square Jaw Surgery

I’m on day 5 after square jaw surgery (intraoral incision) at a well-known hospital in the Apgujeong area. Because I have a lot of facial fat, I also had deep cheek fat removal and cortical bone fracture surgery.

First of all, I really had no pain, only various uncomfortable symptoms from general anesthesia. Since my case was only square jaw surgery in particular, it may have been less severe. But the hospital also said that compared with having it done together with other procedures, there would be less swelling, pain, and various restrictions.

On the first day, there was the basic fasting, and after it was over, I had a nosebleed and bloody phlegm, but I couldn’t drink water, couldn’t sleep, and couldn’t even swallow saliva well, so it was really uncomfortable and irritating ㅠㅠ My nose was blocked too, so I thought I was going to die from breathing through my mouth.. After that, phlegm kept coming out, I had a runny nose, and blood would come out occasionally, but it wasn’t serious, and they said it was an aftereffect of general anesthesia.

Until day 2, I couldn’t open my mouth at all, so I only ate very finely blended thin rice porridge, but now I’m eating rice and other things well by cutting them into small pieces. Yogurt, watermelon, banana, castella, and today I even ate raw fish.. A lot of people say their sensation doesn’t come back, but I can feel sensation wherever I touch, and I can chew well too.. Of course, it hurts a little if I open my mouth wide or chew something too hard ㅠ

In terms of pain and discomfort, it’s really nothing, but the most worrying and difficult thing is swelling ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ I really don’t think claims like “you can recover in just one week” are true at all!! Rather, when I first came out of the operating room, I really wasn’t swollen, so I thought, wow, it’ll go down quickly in 2–3 days, but by days 3 and 4, I swelled so badly that I couldn’t even look my family in the eyes.. In that state, I have to wear the compression band, so it’s so stuffy and uncomfortable... I need to go for walks, but I can’t go outside, so I’m doing home workouts ㅠ Still, from the side, I can see that the bone has been shaved, but regardless of the line, my face itself looks so monstrous that I can’t judge yet whether it was a good decision or not.. Right now I’m drinking pumpkin juice and taking things like Elas-A, eating watermelon and everything said to help with swelling, and just waiting for the swelling to go down, sob....

I feel like I rambled on, but to summarize: - There is almost no pain, but there is discomfort in daily life - The swelling goes down much more slowly than expected

This was the site that helped me the most when I was deciding on surgery in a hurry, so I’m posting this short write-up to help as well. I’ll share updates afterward too. Hehe
