First, the cheekbone surgery method at ㅁㅇㅁㄷㄱ is a bit unusual It’s not an intraoral incision or a scalp incision, but a sideburn incision + an incision at the 45-degree cheekbone area The dissection range is much smaller than in other surgeries, so there’s no need to worry about cheek sagging Because the dissection range is small, it has to be done with a non-fixation method, so you do need to be a little careful about nonunion with this surgical method
Then some of you may be wondering, why don’t other hospitals use this surgical method? First, compared with an intraoral incision, it’s harder to secure the surgical field, so the surgery is more difficult. Second, because it’s a method of pushing the zygomatic body inward without shaving it down, the effect may be less than expected for people with severe 45-degree cheekbones. Third, since a 3 mm incision is made on the zygomatic body area, a scar is inevitably left (though scars do fade over time, but the idea of making an incision on the face feels a bit concerning..)
When surgery is done at a university hospital for a cheekbone fracture, there are various methods besides intraoral incision, such as external incision or under-eye conjunctival incision, etc. The reason most cheekbone surgeries done at local clinics use intraoral incisions is probably that the method is relatively easy, the surgical field is well secured so the probability of nerve damage is low, and no externally visible scar remains.
As I had heard, the recovery speed is really fast. It’s day 2, but there’s almost no swelling, no bruising, and almost no pain (bruising and swelling vary greatly by person, so please take this only as reference. For reference, when I had square jaw surgery, the bruising and swelling were no joke)
The hospital told me to remove the facial compression band they provided 48 hours after surgery. I think there should be no problem going outside if I take off the compression band and wear a mask.
I’m still wearing the compression band, so I don’t really know yet how much the side cheekbones have gone in, but for now I’m satisfied. When I had square jaw surgery with an intraoral incision, those 2 weeks were really hard.. Compared with that, this is much more comfortable because I only need to be careful with eating
