Because I want the purpose of this post to be more about choosing a clinic than about my personal side effects, I’ll explain the situation only briefly. In the second year after my first surgery with septal cartilage + silicone + osteotomy, I found out I had developed contracture. I had inflammation, but I didn’t know and let it pass. By the time I noticed, it was in a very serious state, and I was told the silicone had shifted and fluid had collected, so they left the septal cartilage and immediately removed only the silicone. I received antibiotics, had the fluid drained, went through a hard time, and waited one year for the scar tissue to soften. Then I got revision surgery a week ago. I think I visited all the clinics said to be famous for nose revision surgery. From places run under well-known doctors’ own names to large hospitals, and because I thought a lot about materials, I really went everywhere, including places that use autologous dermis and places that use costal cartilage. The reason inflammation may occur is honestly unpredictable. If side effects were to happen again, I focused on whether I could receive surgery from this person again, and during consultations I divided my questions into:
1. The reason the doctor predicts the inflammation occurred 2. The current state of the contracture 3. The materials they would use during surgery + If it was a hospital with an ENT director, improvement in breathing
I asked about those items. In addition, I asked the doctors I thought were good about possible side effects that could occur with another surgery, and in the end, the doctor I had surgery with now had the best understanding of the patient and explained things step by step: the current stage, the possible next stage, and then the stage after that. I think that is why I chose them. This is not a post to promote a clinic. It is a post written because I really want to recommend that you have surgery only after you have looked into it a lot and the doctor has a high level of understanding, especially those getting revision surgery. I went to consult with the doctor who performed this surgery three times, spaced apart. Each time, the consultation was at least over 30 minutes, and they reviewed the CT every time, so I think that’s why I decided. Since I am the person receiving surgery, I sincerely hope you do not make a hasty decision and enter the operating room before you are confident about the materials going into your nose, the line, and your questions. For my first clinic, I went in after a rough consultation, and after the side effect occurred, even though it wasn’t a problem with the clinic and that doctor said they would take responsibility and do it again, I couldn’t receive surgery from them because I didn’t feel confident. First, whether it is promotional posts or posts about side effects, gather as much information as possible and make sure you understand your own nose! That way, during consultations, you can ask questions confidently, ask when you don’t understand even if they explain the surgical method, or immediately pass if it’s not right. I wrote this because I hope many of you look into it thoroughly and decide only when strong trust has been established. I hope this helps even a little. Have a good day!
