I had revision eye surgery at this hospital in January 2019. To overcome the complex caused by scarring from a front canthoplasty I had 10 years earlier, I decided to have front canthoplasty revision surgery. When I went for a consultation about front canthoplasty revision surgery, they recommended several procedures together, saying that revision eyelid correction was also needed, revision double eyelid surgery was also needed, and that because front canthoplasty revision would make the horizontal length of the eyes shorter, outer canthoplasty would be necessary. Seeing them express confidence in revision surgery, I trusted the hospital and decided to undergo the surgery despite the considerable cost. The front canthoplasty revision, revision eyelid correction, and revision double eyelid surgery were all performed by Dr. Choi Hong-rim. It took 3 to 4 hours to do those three procedures. But during this process, I was deeply shocked by the surgeon's consistently informal speech and his careless attitude toward the patient undergoing surgery. If the result had at least been good, I would have just forgotten it and moved on as a thing of the past, but even now, so much time later, I am still experiencing extreme pain because of the results. After the front canthoplasty revision, the horizontal length of the eyes is the same as before surgery, but from the side the amount of lower lacrimal caruncle exposure has actually increased, and the revision created a more noticeable and severe scar than before. In the case of the revision eyelid correction, after the surgery my eye-opening force worked too strongly against my will, making it difficult to open my eyes, and when I mentioned this on the follow-up day, they pretended not to hear it and brushed it off. Now, more than two years after the surgery, I have instead had to hear remarks such as, "Your eyes look sleepy," "Because the movement of the forehead and eyebrows is excessive, forehead Botox would be a good idea," and "Although you had revision eyelid correction, there is no observable difference compared with before the revision eyelid correction. It cannot be said that the revision eyelid correction was properly performed." Even so, as a side effect of the eyelid correction surgery, my eye shape looks unnatural when I smile, and I have difficulty because of the discomfort when opening my eyes and the resulting fatigue. The upward turning of the eyelashes in my left eye is severe, making it look unnatural when I open my eyes. The revision double eyelid surgery was done to reduce the scar from the double eyelid I already had before surgery and improve the line, but as a result I got a severe double eyelid scar when looking down, and the line became crumpled and not pretty. I have to keep hearing new criticism about my double eyelid line from different people every time, and the stress from that is severe. Things like, "It's a sausage line," "The line is too thin," "The line is bent," and "The connection of the double eyelid line at the inner corner is unnatural." ... Even though the revision double eyelid surgery was done with an incision, the right double eyelid has already come undone, and the asymmetry between both eyes is severe. I had the outer canthoplasty performed by Dr. Kim Yeon-joon. Two weeks after those three procedures, I saw the surgeon for the first time right before the operation. He looked at my eyes and went straight into surgery without saying much. I thought lightly of the outer canthoplasty at the time and did not feel any real concern, but I regretted it greatly right after the surgery. After the outer canthoplasty, my expression changed for the worse, I could no longer smile with my eyes properly, and the pulling and discomfort at the surgical site were extremely severe. When I talked about this after the surgery, I was only then told about the procedure: they had cut the ligaments in my skin and fixed them to the periosteum with non-absorbable thread. They said that after some time, the pulling and discomfort caused by the fixation would go away, but even now the surgical site from the outer canthoplasty remains persistently itchy, and I still struggle with the pulling and discomfort caused by the fixation. I also have severe eye stinging and dry eyes centered around the outer canthoplasty site. Another problem is that they made the outer canthoplasty uneven between the two eyes, and because I was not in a position to have immediate revision surgery, I only had revision surgery after six months. But even now, after the revision outer canthoplasty, the asymmetry between my eyes is still very severe. After the surgery, everything in my life came to a halt, and I am in a very difficult mental state. In the belief that I could not go on living like this, I visited many clinics to look into revision surgery, but whether it was eyelid correction, outer canthoplasty, or front canthoplasty revision, none of them were easy surgeries, and other plastic surgeons discouraged me from having revision surgery. The problems are so complex that they are difficult to solve, and they say that even if I have revision surgery, there is no guarantee of improvement. Recently, while talking about these problems, I stated that there was no practical benefit from the surgery and that I was instead suffering from side effects, so I wanted a refund of the surgery cost. But the hospital said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the surgery and that they could only refund about 700,000 won for the undone right double eyelid, then told me to sue them if I wanted to, and are refusing to monitor my follow-up.
