Honestly, I agonized so much over whether to do it or not.. I had cheekbone surgery quite a long time ago, but I wasn’t satisfied with the 45-degree area and the side cheekbones.. Even though I’d been unhappy with it all this time, once it was actually time for surgery, I went in still thinking right up until just before the surgery, “Should I just not do it?”
Honestly, even in that state, my face wasn’t exactly unattractive, so I kept wondering whether I really needed to go through surgery again, recover again, and endure all that pain again (and the cost isn’t small either..) Do I really need to do this again.. I’m not going to become a celebrity or anything.. My face was ordinary, not especially angular, and I wondered if I was focusing too much only on my appearance. I had a lot of worries like that.
Anyway, since I had already finished paying and the day had come, I couldn’t cancel, so I was trying to control my mindset and tell myself the surgery would go well, but I fell asleep right away from the anesthesia.
Through the several surgeries I’ve had so far, it was always incredibly painful when the surgery was over and I woke up from anesthesia. I would be so, so cold.. my jaw would tremble, and it hurt, and on top of that, on days I had anesthesia, I always even threw up bile.. I felt suffocated, nauseous nonstop, and in pain ㅠㅠ There was nothing I could do... time really would not pass in the recovery room.
I did tell this hospital about that beforehand, but I didn’t have high expectations. I thought it would be the same. But wow, it was the first time I woke up feeling warm and not cold at all. They covered me with a cotton blanket on an electric heating pad.. Even though it was general anesthesia, I wasn’t nauseous, and for the first time in my life, I didn’t vomit after general anesthesia ㅠ They even removed the pins that had been fixed in place during my previous cheekbone surgery, but the swelling only puffed up to about chipmunk-cheek level. They said that because I was a revision case, this was the most swollen compared with other patients..
And what was truly moving was... The director... on the morning of the surgery, consulted with me for almost over an hour, prepared, and then performed the surgery.. He even took the photos himself, looked at each bone one by one, and explained that he would do it this way.. He also explained even the things that could happen just in case, and though the probability was low, how he would respond if something like that really did happen.. He told me he would do his best, and this is the first time I’ve ever felt so deeply, down to my bones, that someone really did just that. If this surgery had been my first surgery, I might have mistakenly thought all doctors were like this. But that’s not the case. I’m someone who has had quite a few cosmetic surgeries here and there.. When I first had cheekbone surgery at that famous large hospital, when I had my nose done somewhere else, and when I had my eyes done at another place too.. I’ve never seen a director who did things like this ㅠ It got to the point where I was saying, “Why are there so few reviews here? You barely do any dissection, the intraoral incision is only about 0.7, and yet the cheekbones go in so well, so why don’t you promote it more? I’ll write a review for you” ㅠㅜ I feel like people might see me as a broker haha. I even talked about things like this with the nurses.
And since my surgery was the first surgery on 11/1, I thought there would be another surgery right after mine in the afternoon, but it turns out I was the only surgery they did today ㅠㅜ (I was a revision case, and when I first had cheekbone surgery, the bone had been completely cut. Only the areas where the fixation pins were placed had somewhat fused, and the rest was nonunion ㅠㅜ So he said the surgery would not be easy, and it also took longer than a first-time surgery patient, so I think that’s why he only did me. Originally, if you have your first cheekbone surgery here, the surgery doesn’t take long and there isn’t much swelling. The reason is in the surgical method!) Then, around the time I was almost done recovering in the recovery room, the director came by and explained that today’s surgery had gone like this and that, so he did such and such.. He explained everything ㅠㅜ He asked about my condition... They say he practically lives at the hospital? Where else would there be a hospital like this?
I think I must be really blessed. Of course, even though my first cheekbone surgery left me dissatisfied with the appearance, I had no other side effects at all, my nose has been fine for 9 years without even one inflammation, and my eyes look natural too... I’m truly grateful. Is today a cosmetic surgery memoir? haha
Oh, and you can also be hospitalized for 5 days for free ㅠㅠ Honestly, I was planning to sleep only the night of surgery and be discharged the next day, but the bed can raise and lower me between sitting and lying down.. and there’s a refrigerator and microwave too, so it’s so warm and nice that I’m going to stay a little longer! Since it’s dawn and the day is changing, I wrote the timing a bit confusingly. I had surgery on Friday, 11/1, today is my first day of hospitalization, and it’s Saturday lol I was quietly alone, then I saw a post in a cosmetic surgery side-effect cafe from someone who had cheekbone surgery today, and they said they had bloody sputum, nosebleeds, and so on. I had absolutely none of that, so I was surprised and decided to write this.. But as I kept writing, all the things I was moved by earlier just came pouring out.. lol
