Hi everyone^^~ This is my review of a closed rhinoplasty involving crushed cartilage grafting and nasal-tip cartilage suturing. I consider it a failure because I’m dissatisfied, though I understand it may look fine to someone else.
Reason for surgery and consultation process My nasal tip was short and compressed when viewed from the left side, and I wanted surgery so it would not look pressed in. I also wanted to fill a subtle hump visible only from the left. The surgeon said crushed cartilage grafting alone would not be enough and that cartilage suturing was essential, because it would make the nose look slimmer from the front. Since my nose was slightly upturned, he said he would bring it down very slightly.
I like short, upturned noses. But when he said cartilage suturing could lift the nose and make it excessively upturned, I asked him to lower it only very slightly and absolutely not make it look longer. The photos are from seven months later: photos 1–4 before surgery and 5–10 after surgery.
Why the surgery went wrong I asked them to lift my nasal tip, but the surgery made it droop. I said not to lengthen my nose, but they made it long. From the left-side profile!!!, if the tip is drooping, the right tip should be lifted more, but they simply built it up mainly by injecting cartilage into the left nasal bridge. (The biggest mystery is that the doctor didn’t know what even I knew.) The original right tip was slightly more compressed. Anyway, contrary to my requests, I ended up with a witch nose ^~^
At first the coordinator said it was swelling, but after the swelling went down, the tip dropped completely. It was a factory-style clinic, so it was too busy and very difficult to communicate with the surgeon. I don’t know whether the doctor lacked skill, but I think it’s more accurate to say his aesthetic sense was terrible. Even when I explain why I feel my nose looks strange now, he doesn’t understand.
What makes me angry is that they said ear cartilage would be used only for the uneven step created during tip suturing. At six months, a large step appeared at the site on the bridge where ear cartilage had been placed lol. Even reading this back, it’s crazy. From my first surgery, I was never once shown my CT scans or given an explanation of why they were taken.
During the consultation for correcting the step, I said my tip was too long and drooping and that the tip point had fallen, so it seemed it needed correction. They said no ear cartilage had originally been placed in the tip, that it was entirely my own cartilage, and that precise open revision was necessary. They told me to have only the step corrected, then return two weeks later after checking the surgical record to see where my ear cartilage had been placed and contact them. But now they say cartilage was placed in the tip too.
My appearance-obsession phase has already passed, and I want a refund, but there was no inflammation; it’s simply dissatisfaction on my part ^~^ Anyway, people say closed surgery is simple, but think carefully before having surgery. I never dreamed I would write a post like this. Most people react to my postoperative nose with, “Gasp...? What do we do You’ve become a whiner.” Yes, lol. I want to upload more photos and explain the problem in detail, but uploads are limited, so leave a comment if you’re curious~
Anyway, I don’t know whether the crushed cartilage at the tip has drooped or the sutured cartilage has come apart, but because of the current step correction, I can consult about removal and revision six months from now. I’ll come back later with a review after consulting about revision, in case anyone like me has failed crushed-cartilage grafting ^_^
