About 7 years ago, while having surgery for a deviated septum at an ENT clinic, I had the irregularly protruding hump on my nasal bridge shaved down, and had my nasal tip built up with 2 mm Gore-Tex, a septal support strut, and cartilage pieces.
The skin on my nasal bridge was thin, so the Gore-Tex showed through badly in a square shape, and because of that the crookedness was also very visible. My nasal tip also came down slightly, and I could feel the square edges of the pieces, so I had them removed around this time last August. (There were no signs of inflammation in my nose before removal.)
The ENT clinic where I had the surgery had a doctor with a terrible attitude, and he recommended revision surgery instead of removal. It seemed like he had never done removal before. Communication was poor too, and he basically said he would do it if I was willing to take full responsibility even if things looked strange after removal, so I could not trust him and looked into hospitals in Seoul. I live outside Seoul, and I do not even know how many times I went back and forth to Seoul for consultation tours, surgery, and so on.. I think everyone can relate to the time-related, emotional, and financial stress.
We decided to remove everything except the septal support strut at the nasal tip and went into surgery, but they said the depression in my nasal bridge bone was severe, so they shaved down the removed pieces and put them in. Since my mom was my guardian, they told my mom and proceeded that way. There was an added fee of about 500,000 won too;;
Anyway, they said they ground it up and put it into my nasal bridge, but even now, when I touch it, it is still bumpy. If I pull down under the philtrum, it is slightly visible to the eye, but I think it is better than an artificial look, so I am not worrying about it. But if the skin on my nasal bridge gets even thinner from here.. the bumpiness might become more visible, and then I think it would be a bit stressful ㅠ
And as for the nasal tip, if I divide the left and right sides based on the support in the middle, one side is round and soft, and on the other side I can slightly feel an angled cartilage edge, so it is a bit uneven. I went once to have stitches removed around 2 weeks or 1 month after surgery, and after that I was supposed to go for a 6-month follow-up, but it seemed like they would only take photos, and it was a busy season, so I could not go. If there is no inflammation, I am going to accept the rest as natural and live with it.
When I visited Seoul, the nurse had not removed all the stitches, but the doctor only took a quick look from the outside and said the surgery went well. After I had already gone back home, I discovered it later and went to a nearby plastic surgery clinic to have the remaining stitches removed, so that was not a good memory either. The doctor was not kind, but the surgery did not go badly in any major way. Though I would not say it went extremely well, considering the different feel on both sides of the nasal bridge and nasal tip, the handling of the nasal bridge depression, and so on..
For those thinking about removal, fighting.. I have experienced it too, so I know how painful and stressful it is.. I am writing this suddenly, so the content is all over the place, but I hope everything goes well for everyone.
