Last month, I had rhinoplasty with Director B.C.Y. at ㅇㅇ* Hospital. During the consultation, I found out that I had a hump nose, so the hump was slightly shaved down and 3 mm silicone was inserted.
I wanted a natural-looking nose rather than a dramatic one, so I think that’s why it was possible to proceed with a closed approach. Mesh material, a small amount of ear cartilage, and dermis were used.
On the 8th day, including the day of surgery, after the splint was removed, I was surprised that there was less swelling than I expected. I had heard that it depends on each person’s skin/tissue characteristics and condition, so I wondered if it was because I had been eating and sleeping well at home during that time.
The tape had been attached very firmly, so I got a little bruising when it was removed, but fortunately, as I had seen in many reviews, it resolved with warm/cold compresses and time. The design drawn with a blue permanent marker during surgery remained as it was, so it did take a little time to fade.
Overall, I’m fairly satisfied with the surgical process and results. However, a few things still bother me: I was discharged without receiving an explanation about the postoperative process, and as of now, 3 weeks later, there is still a slight hump remaining that I’m not sure is swelling or not.
First of all, I thought that receiving sufficient explanation about the surgical process is both a patient’s right and responsibility, so I made an appointment and had a consultation with the doctor in charge 1 week later (2 weeks after surgery). I had many questions, such as how many millimeters of silicone had been inserted, why dermis was used in addition to ear cartilage, and why the bridge of my nose still looked convex. I was told that everyone’s original nasal bridge height differs, so the actual silicone size is not very important, and that I did not need to worry about the convex-looking part.
Once more time passes, I think I’ll be able to know more clearly whether the swelling has gone down or whether the hump remains. If it’s the latter, I have my one-month consultation coming up soon, so I’m going to ask for a more detailed explanation.
A few days ago, I met a friend, and since it was my first time meeting someone I know after surgery, I was secretly nervous. But even after several hours together, they didn’t notice. Of course, when compared with old photos, the more defined nasal bridge and rounded nasal tip definitely stand out. It must have turned out really natural, just as I had hoped.
There isn’t anything else particularly worth noting, so I’ll wrap up here. I hope this can be a small help to those who are considering it.
